Round 23: Trento’s tie-break over Cuneo. Macerata second 10 behind.
LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – FIDIA PADOVA 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20)
LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Pajenk 1, Savani 13, Exiga (L), Parodi, Stankovic 3, Kovar 8, Monopoli 2, Travica 3, Omrcen 14, Podrascanin 10. DNP Lampariello, Van Walle. Coach. Giuliani.
FIDIA PADOVA: Schwarz 5, Gonzalez 4, Cricca 7, Koshikawa, Giannotti, Rosso 2, De Marchi 13, Simeonov 7, Semenzato 4, Zingaro (L). DNP Garghella, Tiberti, Suljagic. Coach. Montagnani.
No surprises in Macerata with Giuliani’s men getting rid of Padova in straight sets and registering their fourth consecutive league win. MVP: Igor Omrcen.
Igor Omrcen (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “This has been a difficult game, because Padova was desperately looking for points to stay up. And at the end of the season it is always tough to face certain teams. We had prepared the game well during the week, and we managed to take three important points. We’ll try to defend our league position and win the remaining games too”.
Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “We had good spells, shame Simeonov and Schwarz did not score as much as usual, they are our two main players in attack and for different reasons, they were not hundred percent. We’ll try everything we can do until the end to stay up, we’ll try to get as many points as possible in the last three games”.
M. ROMA VOLLEY – CMC RAVENNA 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-19)
M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 6, Paparoni (L), Zaytsev 17, Boninfante 2, Bencz, Sabbi 13, Cisolla 8, Bjelica 8. DNP Passier, Paolucci, Ottaviani, Puliti, Corsano. Coach. Giani.
CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 7, Leonardi 3, Bendandi, Corvetta 1, Sirri 5, Tabanelli (L), Verhanneman, Plesko 7, Brunner, Gruszka 2, Roberts 5. DNP Gallosti, Moro. Coach. Babini.
The shining sun in the capital had a positive influence on Roma, which put an end to a five-game losing streak. Giani’s team swept Ravenna, which is already certain to go down in the A2.
Matteo Tabanelli (CMC Ravenna): “It’s not easy to perform when you know you have nothing to play for anymore. But we will play the remaining games seriously, giving our best on court even if the fact we’re already down has taken away any kind of purpose. We’ll have to find the motivation out of the anger we have inside, and try to prove that we are players that deserve to play in the Serie A1”.
Martin Lebl (M.Roma Volley): “It’s never easy to play when you must win at all cost. Besides, our opponent had nothing to lose and could play without any kind of pressure. We started off with determination and put them under pressure from the beginning. We controlled a game, which was not easy, I repeat, because we had no choice but win it”.
SISLEY BELLUNO – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 3-1 (25-10, 25-22, 24-26, 25-23)
SISLEY BELLUNO: Abdelaziz 2, Fei 20, Horstink 12, Dolfo 2, Farina (L), Kohut 11, De Togni 8, Suxho 2, Antonov, Ogurcak 10. DNP Szabò, Curti, Sorato. Coach. Piazza.
COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Kral 3, Sidibé 2, Papi 8, Nikolov 15, Kampa 3, Zlatanov 17, Holt 1, Tencati 3, De Oliveira. DNP Massari, Sarubbi. Coach. Monti.
A special prize and ovation at the start of the game for Samuele Papi, former Sisley Treviso player, who won 6 league titles and many cups there. Then began the game between the two most in-form teams of the league. Seven wins in a row for both until Belluno made it 8 by stopping Piacenza in 4 sets.
Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno): “I am extremely happy with the three points and result, a little less for the third set which we started badly. We have been too relax after the first two set won. This is a dangerous attitude. Good job we reacted, fought hard and took the three points after that against a team that did not start well but then showed all its quality. We have three more games to play, starting with Trento, three key games for our playoff position. We can still improve, we have got better and better recently and I can’t see any reason to stop just now”.
Samuele Papi (Copra Elior Piacenza): “The pre-game was a great feeling, I’d like to thank Sisley which I’ll always have in my heart, I didn’t expect such a welcome, that was really a great emotion. As for the game, we started terribly, while they did very well in the first two sets. We reacted and with a little bit of luck we might have been able to force a tie-break. If I have to find something positive, I’d say the reaction from the second set on, which is what proves us we are still in good shape. Shame our winning streak ended, but that can happen against such a good team, the important is to have shown we were alive tonight too, even on a day we did not play our best volleyball”.
BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 2-3 (25-22, 23-25, 28-30, 25-22, 10-15) – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 8, Henno (L), Ngapeth 14, Fortunato, Wijsmans 12, Vissotto Neves 35, Grbic 4, Caceres, Patriarca, Rossi 6, Baranowicz. DNP Van Lankvelt, Pieri. Coach. Placì.
ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Birarelli 2, Della Lunga 9, Zygadlo 4, Vieira De Oliveira, Brinkman 12, Lanza 15, Sokolov 33, Djuric 12, Colaci (L), Bari (L). DNP Kaziyski, Juantorena, Stokr. Coach. Stoytchev.
In front of a near sold out crowd, the game between Cuneo and Trento turned into a hard-fought battle that lasted five sets. Trento bounced back after a first set loss and did not panic when Cuneo won the fourth. Stoytchev’s men led the tie-break from start to finish with Sokolov MVP with 33 points, while Cuneo had the top scorer in Vissotto with 35 points and 72% in attack.
Filippo Lanza (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Tonight, the coach decided to use the turnover to rest some players for the coming games. This was a great opportunity for the ones that went on court and we made the most of it I think. For me, playing in this gym against a team like Cuneo has been a great feeling. We were extremely motivated, we gave everything we had and I think this was obvious. A great satisfaction that rewards all the work we do every day”.
Leandro Vissotto (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We played well, I am personally happy with my performance, but Trento really did it all and Sokolov was extremely inspired today. They put their souls into it, they fought on every dig at the maximum of their ability, they could not have done any better than what they did. Congratulations to them”.

Tied 2 sets all, San Giustino took control of the tie-break, which they led from start to finish. MVP: Tine Urnaut with 30 points.
Tine Urnaut (Energy Resources San Giustino): “It’s been a great victory. The fans really gave us amazing strength in the key moments, we have to thank them. We’re starting to like the taste of victory, we’re playing with more consistency, that’s the way to go”.
Marco Fenoglio (coach Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “Great feeling for me to be in this gym with this amazing supporters: a special emotion. I can only be happy, this was a superb volleyball game”.

Latina fought back from 2 sets down to get a point out of its home game against Modena. A crucial points that secures its participation in the top division next season. MVP: Anderson.
Gianrio Falivene (President Andreoli Latina): “We’ve done it, we’re mathematically safe, and that was our main target. We did it with quite a few games still to play and that’s very important for the club. Shame we did not play in the first two sets today. Now we just have to focus on playing well and win”.
Matthew Anderson (Casa Modena): “In the first two sets, we played very well, especially on the serve and at the net. In the third set we faded, especially on the serve. We got back on track in the fourth but we could not complete the comeback, which we managed in the tie-break as we were back to our best”.
