The tie-break was required in the second semi-final of the Italian Cup Final Four too. Another two hours of pure entertainment in Andria that had Castellana Grotte celebrating its pass for Sunday’s final. Intense game from first to last point as Danail Milushev and Israel Rodriguez made the difference in attack for Castellana respectively with 27 points (56%) and 25 points (66%).
Vincenzo Di Pinto (coach BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “We found more balance as Ricciardello came on and we improved considerably our level of play on the block-dig combination. We got frustrated at the beginning of the fourth set, but we regained our composure in the fifth. We have very little time to celebrate because we’ll be playing in a historical final for the club tomorrow, the first ever”.
Antonio Ricciardello (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “I am extremely happy that we managed to turn things around when I came on. This is great for the team, which now has to prepare carefully for tomorrow’s final. We’ll do everything possible to win this Italian Cup”.
Slobodan Kovac (coach Sri Safety Perugia): “We did not do bad at all, just a few too many mistakes. I made some substitutions like them that helped us, with Filippo Belcecchi for example. Congratulations to Castellana Grotte. There has been a doubtful decision at 11-10 in the tie-break but we can’t really argue with anything. We did not have Vujevic 100% fit and that influenced our game”.
Andrea Cesarini (Sir Safety Perugia): “We have made some mistakes in the tie-break but if you compare each of their players with each of ours, they should always win. In the fifth set, Milushev and Rodriguez made the difference, they attacked everything”.
