Round 11. Packed stands on boxing day

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-16)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 8, Henno (L), Ngapeth 11, Fortunato 5, Wijsmans 11, Vissotto Neves 16, Grbic 4, Rossi. DNP Van Lankvelt, Caceres, Patriarca, Pieri, Baranowicz. Coach. Gulinelli.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Rossini (L), Conte 5, Nikic 2, Forni 1, Molteni 2, Buti 2, Kaszap 1, De Cecco 1, Gavotto 10, Shumov 7, Roumeliotis. DNP Ciabattini, Rooney. Coach. Zanini.

Cuneo celebrates Christmas with 3700 fans and a victory over Monza that came after just an hour and thirteen. However, in the last action of the game, Gigi Mastrangelo injured his left ankle.

Leandro Vissotto (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We are working well and we need to keep winning. I personally think I am improving game after game. It’s all a physical question, I haven’t had a minute to rest but thanks to the training I see my game is getting better”.

Emanuele Zanini (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “I think this was one of the worst games played so far. Credit to Cuneo which is a top team, and they proved it in the game against Trento. There is clearly a difference of level between us and them, but not the one seen tonight. We could have done better, both in terms of attitude and level of play. Some players lost their focus far too early and we cannot accept that”.

SISLEY BELLUNO – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (18-25, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25)

SISLEY BELLUNO: Abdelaziz, Szabò, Fei 19, Horstink 9, Farina (L), Kohut 11, Curti, De Togni 10, Suxho 2, Antonov 3, Ogurcak 9. DNP Dolfo, Sorato. Coach. Piazza.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 11, Birarelli 6, Della Lunga, Juantorena 16, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Brinkman, Sokolov, Djuric 9, Colaci (L), Stokr 25, Bari (L). DNP Zygadlo, Burgsthaler. Coach. Stoytchev.

The first ever ‘Dolomiti’ derby between Belluno and Trento was sold out (2600). Trentino jumped out of the starting blocks in a game they would win in four sets. MVP: Stokr.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno): “We cannot afford to start playing from the second set, we just gave away the first one, being too tense at the start. After that we played well, playing face to face and even doing better in the number of blocks, which shows the team played hard tonight. But in the end we made too many mistakes, Trento is a team that puts you under pressure and they push you to the mistake, but then when you work hard to get back and miss easy hits, that’s no good. We have a lot of work on and must improve quickly. We’re playing Macerata in three days, another tough test. Thanks to the fans, it was great to play with the packed arena”.

Emanuele Birarelli (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We did a good job tonight but we’ve had a bit of luck too against a team that does not miss much, and that is good in every area of the game. We started off brightly, then we struggled a bit as they became more aggressive, but we never put our heads down. And despite the fact I believe Belluno deserved something more out of it, we’re quite happy to take those three points, very important ones for us”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – CMC RAVENNA 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18)

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Falasca, Coscione 3, Cernic 7, Diaz 5, Grassano, Rak 9, Klapwijk 18, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 8. DNP Mignolo, Banderò, Olli, Barone. Coach. Blengini.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 8, Bendandi, Corvetta, Sirri 11, Tabanelli (L), Verhanneman, Quiroga 2, Moro 10, Brunner 9, Gruszka 1, Roberts 1. DNP Leonardi, Gallosti. Coach. Babini.

Vibo Valentia made the court advantage count and took maximum points at the expense of Ravenna. MVP: Niels Klapwijk.

Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We definitely haven’t played our best game but the important thing was to take the three points, this was our main target and we did it. Thanks to this result, we are still in with a chance to take part in the cup. We’ll be going next to Modena with confidence”.

Luca Sirri (CMC Ravenna): “This was a bit of a strange game for us: we faced a good team but we lacked effectiveness on the serve and at the net. This enabled Vibo to clinch the victory”.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 1-3 (21-25, 29-27, 21-25, 20-25)

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 11, Rauwerdink 16, Patak 21, Cozzi, Finazzi 6, Petkovic, Giovi (L), Urnaut 13. DNP Mc Kibbin, Tholse, Lo Bianco, Sammelvuo. Coach. De Giorgi.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Pajenk, Savani 16, Exiga (L), Parodi 21, Stankovic 13, Kovar, Monopoli, Van Walle, Travica 1, Omrcen 20, Podrascanin 9. Coach. Giuliani.

Macerata came away from a packed arena in San Giustino with a 3-1 victory although the host gave it a good fight as Patak made his debut. MVP: Parodi.

Fefè De Giorgi (coach Energy Resources San Giustino): “I am satisfied because I have seen the team play good volleyball and I’d like the players to do more of this, because if we can get read of a few silly mistakes, we could really do well. I like the impact of Patak on the game. Now we know who we are, our season starts now”.

Cristian Savani (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “All the games are difficult, and this one was no different. We stepped up after losing the set. They had an excellent performance from the American Patak, he is a top player”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – CASA MODENA 2-3 (25-20, 25-22, 14-25, 23-25, 13-15)

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Popp 13, Kosmina, Ter Horst 12, Calderan, Meoni 3, Smerilli (L), Patriarca 10, Zingel 12, Casarin, Postiglioni, Gasparini 26. Coach. Bagnoli.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 14, Dennis 19, Carletti, Bellei, Yosifov 5, Esko, Martino 9, Anderson 18, Piscopo 1. DNP Catellani, Kooy, Casoli. Coach. Bagnoli.

The game between Verona and Modena turned into a real battle that lasted over two hours. The hosts were forced to play a tie-break despite taking an early two-nil lead. MVP: Marco Meoni.

Thijs Ter Horst (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We got off to an excellent start, we put our opponent under pressure as our serve continued to get better. From the third set on, though, they turned things around. We could have done a little bit better, especially in the tie-break, but I still think that overall this was a good game. The first two sets were very good, we should build on that for the next game against Trento”.

Daniele Bagnoli (Casa Modena): “We played one of our worst games, the players seemed tense, we’ll have to talk about it tomorrow and understand what happened, at the end of the day training is going fine. Given how things went, we can only be happy we won two points. On the other side of the net, Meoni gave a lesson of volleyball”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – FIDIA PADOVA 1-3 (28-26, 21-25, 23-25, 20-25)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rivera Caamano 3, Hardy-dessources 5, Gitto 2, Sottile 1, Jarosz 24, De Pandis (L), Guemart, Troy, Roca Borrero 14, Cester 10, Fragkos 15. DNP Tailli, Galabinov. Coach. Prandi.

FIDIA PADOVA: Garghella (L), Schwarz 12, Gonzalez 10, Cricca 5, Koshikawa, De Marchi 17, Simeonov 14, Semenzato 12, Suljagic 3. DNP Tiberti, Giannotti, Rosso. Coach. Montagnani.

In the end, the team that made less mistakes won it. Latina made 26 while Padova ‘limited’ them to 16.

Silvano Prandi (coach Andreoli Latina): “Our reception and attack did not work. To be honest we struggled in just about every area. There have been many negative situations and many mistakes. We don’t and have never thought about the Italian Cup, our target is to play to win one game at a time”.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “We had an excellent game and we took advantage of Latina’s mistakes. Gonzalez and Sememzato played to perfection. Latina is a place that brings me luck. I had already won with Taranto, I have many friends here. This is a very tight league in which you cannot underestimate anyone, but you can also try to win anywhere, and we did it today in Latina”.

M. ROMA VOLLEY – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 0-3 (24-26, 18-25, 27-29)

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 8, Passier 4, Paolucci, Paparoni (L), Maruotti 5, Zaytsev 13, Boninfante 1, Bencz 2, Corsano (L), Sabbi 9, Cisolla 5. DNP Antonucci, Puliti. Coach. Giani.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Kral, Papi 6, Zhekov, Nikolov 12, Massari, Kampa 7, Zlatanov 23, Holt 6, Tencati 7. DNP Sidibé, Marretta, Penchev. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Without Bjelica, Roma offered a poor performance to its fans in its last home game of 2011 and was swept by Piacenza.

Giulio Sabbi (M.Roma Volley): “At one point we totally lost it in the first set and I can’t seem to find any explanation for it. We were five or 6 points ahead, after which we started to make one mistake after another. Then, we never managed to get going again. Losing a set like that can happen but then you have to start over as if it was 0-0”.

Vladimir Nikolov (Copra Elior Piacenza): “Hopefully this is the victory that will get us to start over. We had been working well in the gym but the results were not coming. I am extremely satisfied today because we won against a strong team, which plays good volleyball”.
