2012 CEV Champions League

Bad night: Cuneo and Macerata beaten. Monza plays Thursday in Finland in the CevCup.

 FENERBAHCE GRUNDIG ISTANBUL – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 3-2 (25-22, 28-26, 25-27, 25-27, 15-13)

FENERBAHCE GRUNDIG ISTANBUL: Kayhan 10, Marshall 21, Mezgitci, Eksi 8, Coskovic 10, Miljkovic 23, Batur 11, Kilic (L). DNP Loderus, Durgut, Fertelli, Cevikel. Coach. Castellani.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: De Moraes Lampariello, Pajenk 11, Savani 21, Exiga (L), Parodi 13, Stankovic, Kovar 3, Monopoli, Travica 3, Omrcen 25, Podrascanin 6. DNP Van. Coach. Giuliani.

The first loss of the European campaign arrived in Turkey against Fenerbahce for Giuliani’s team. Omrcen and co gathered an important point to stay second in the group but can be disappointed to have wasted a lot of good opportunities, both in the second and fifth set.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Except for the second set, I think we have played decent volleyball, especially in attack on routine plays. We have served a bit better than in other outings but we did not get the runs that won us some games from our best servers today. Credit to Fenerbahce which, after being pegged back from 2-0 to 2-2 and being 9-12 down in the tie-break, did not give up and managed to turn things around”.

Marko Podrascanin (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We knew it was going to be a very tough game, but we are obviously disappointed with the way it went and for the opportunities wasted. I’m talking mainly about the second set and also the tie-break in which we were close to get a very important victory. It’s useless to cry over it now, though,  let’s be happy with the point taken and look ahead with confidence”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – JIHOSTROJ CESKE BUDEJOVICE 0-3 (28-30, 20-25, 23-25)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO : Mastrangelo 9, Henno (L), Ngapeth 7, Fortunato 6, Wijsmans 15, Vissotto 4, Grbic 3, Caceres 12, Patriarca 3, Baranowicz. DNP Van Lankvelt, Rossi. Coach. Gulinelli.

JIHOSTROJ CESKE BUDEJOVICE: Rojas, Novotny 14, Sukuba, Fila 7, Zapletal 2, Juracka (L), Smrcka 10. DNP Mach, Prochazka, Michalek, Habr, Motys. Coach. Svoboda.

Very difficult home debut for Gulinelli’s boys in the Champions League. They surrendered 3-0 against the Czechs of Budejovice showing a total lack of character. Cuneo lost a very tight first set then made far too many mistakes in the second, with a final 4-0 push by the opponents, and in the third to hope to get back in the game. Cuneo did not seem ready mentally while the Czechs looked composed throughout.
