ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 17, Birarelli 6, Della Lunga 1, Juantorena 9, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Sala 6, Sokolov 5, Colaci (L), Stokr 12, Bari (L). DNP Leonardi, Zygadlo, Bratoev. Coach. Stoytchev.

Trentino did not fail on its first one. In the playoff quarter-finals, Stoytchev’s team won it in straight sets over San Giustino. The hosts managed to hold off a team that came in Trento with great fighting spirit.

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “It’s been an excellent start, we really wanted to open up with a good result but we already have to think about the next one which is on Sunday. Tight game? Yes, there wasn’t such a big difference between us, which is why it was nice to seal it quickly”.

Emanuele Zanini (coach RPA-LuigiBacchi.it San Giustino): “We played face to face for a while in the first set and in part of the second but we need to do better once we get to 20 if we want to get something out of it, and we failed to do that. We’ll wait for game 2 with confidence, having absolutely nothing to lose. Hopefully, if we play with our heart, we can do better, we will try our best anyway”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-18)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 11, Henno (L), Fortunato 5, Grbic 5, Nikolov 19, Patriarca 8, Volkov 10. DNP Galic, Montagna, Wijsmans, Carletti, Peda. Coach. Giuliani.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Pajenk 7, Brunner 6, Meoni 1, Lasko 9, Smerilli (L), Lotman 9, Zingel, Cala Gerardo 7, Herpe. DNP Kosmina, Sterzi. Coach. Bagnoli.

Cuneo made its home debut in the playoffs with a 3-0 victory over Verona in the quarter-finals. Coach Giuliani had to make do without spiker Simone Parodi, who’s out for the season, and Wout Wijsmams, still recovering from his ankle injury. However, the tactical move made by the coach proved to be a winning one with Grbic as setter and Mastrangelo unusually lined up on the wing.

Bruno Bagnoli (Marmi Lanza Verona): “They have definitely done a good job on the serve, but then we also made things complicated for ourselves. We had the weapons to make it difficult for them, but with such serves and such pressure on the dig, it’s very difficult. Game 2 is a new game, each one has its own story, but we have to work on a few situations”.

Alberto Giuliani (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Credit to the boys, which gave 200%. During the whole week, we have tried all the alternatives to see which one could be the best to make up for the players out. We did extremely well on the counter, on other things we found it hard but not because of technical shortcomings but because of schemes we have had too little time to work on. I insist on the attitude of the group, this is a good sign for the coming games”.
