Trento still unbeaten. Cuneo and Macerata win too. Treviso come back and win at the tie-break against Vibo Valentia. Next round on Wednesday.

SISLEY TREVISO – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23, 15-12)

SISLEY TREVISO: Elgarten 1, Horstink 21, Kovar 23, Papi, Farina (L), Boninfante 2, De Togni 1, Bontje 9, Maruotti 13, Bjelica 11. DNP Szabo, Fei, Vanin. Coach. Piazza.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Rivera Caamano 10, Coscione 2, Suljagic, Anderson 26, Ferraro, Kindgard, Baroti, Simeonov 21, Barone 6, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 10. DNP Feroleto. Coach. Di Pinto.

Still without Fei, with Horstink as an outside hitter, Treviso managed to keep its positive streak going against a Vibo VAlentia team that had defeated them earlier this season. This time again it was tough, Treviso had to fight back from a two-nil deficit. This is the eleventh tie-break of the season for Treviso, the fourth in a row. Kovar MVP.

Jiri Kovar (Sisley Treviso): “I played well, but the team played especially fine. It could have been us leading 2-0, but we made too many mistakes. Then, we became more aggressive, we improved at the net and we made a couple of digs which gave us confidence. Bob Horstink, at his third game as outside hitter, was excellent and for us it is important to win as well without Fei, which is one of our main players. Shame we lost a point, but it was a good game, we showed our fighting spirit once more and the character of the group”.

Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Shame, we wasted a good opportunity. On the eve of the game we’d have been happy with a point after the recent defeats but at 2-0 we believed we could make the upset. But the strength and experience of Treviso came out and it became difficult for us, even if in the fourth set, we had a chance to get back in it and win the set. We went close against a big gun, let’s keep the positive and let’s look at the future with confidence”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 8, Henno (L), Parodi 14, Fortunato, Wijsmans 25, Carletti, Grbic 4, Nikolov 16, Patriarca, Volkov 5. DNP Galic, Montagna, Peda. Coach. Giuliani.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Rauwerdink 16, Pesenti, Krumins, Forni 9, Buti 7, Rooney 15, Travica 3, Gavotto 16, Exiga (L). DNP Cetrullo, Zito, Molteni, Shumov. Coach. Monti.

Back in Cuneo after the long trip to Russia in the Champions League, Giuliani’s men had the better of Monza 3-1. Hubert Henno MVP.

Simone Parodi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Monza played an unbelievable game: they really played well, we really find it difficult against them. We made a lot of mistakes and we were tired but we did well to keep our minds to it. We did not shine in any department, but I think you recognise a great team in its character when it doesn’t play well, when the serve doesn’t go in, but it still manages to stay in it”.

Luca Monti (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We can’t really criticise the team, just a little bit disappointed not to have handled the end of the first set better, but that’s the only thing. As for the rest, we did what was in our possibility against a very strong team. You can’t argue with the stars that Cuneo has, even when they are tired, at this level, they always make the difference”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 27-25)

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Savani 13, Paparoni (L), Vermiglio 2, Conte 6, Stankovic 4, Martino, Omrcen 17, Podrascanin 12. DNP Lampariello, Marchiani, Vadeleux, Van Walle, Cacchiarelli. Coach. Berruto.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Pajenk 9, Kosmina, Brunner 2, Meoni, Lasko 22, Smerilli (L), Lotman 10, Zingel 3, Cala Gerardo 8, Herpe 2. DNP Latelli, Centomo. Coach. Bagnoli.

Many former players of each other’s team in this game. One above the others: Renaud Herpe who spent five years in Macerata, never forgotten there as he scored the winning point in the league title 2006. Despite the 3-0 score, the game was characterised by long exchanges.

Mauro Berruto (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “In my opinion, this is a very important win for our league position, since I believe there is a 99% chance that third place guarantees the qualification to the next Champions League. Today again, we had to deal with physical problems of a few players, but overall the team played well in the key moments of the sets. Still, we can and have to do better. Hopefully, we’ll have everybody hundred percent fit for the games that matter, although the many games we play in quick succession do not let us much time to breath. From tonight, we’ll already be focusing on Wednesday’s game against Castellana Grotte”.

Marco Meoni (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Disappointed with the 3-0 score, but I still think Verona played a very good game. Playing face to face with Macerata in every set, at least until 21, has to be a good basis on which to build for the future. Winning here was unthinkable, we have to think of this game as an excellent test, which I think we passed”.

YOGA FORLì – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO 0-3 (25-27, 18-25, 25-27)

YOGA FORLì: Falasca 7, Bacci, De Pandis (L), Sintini 3, Kovacevic 9, Bellei 10, Caldeira 12, Oivanen 8, Bovolenta 5. DNP Ricci Petitoni, Diachkov, Olivucci, Ainsworth. Coach. Molducci.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO: Zhukouski, Van Den Dries 2, Dias 10, Giovi (L), Finazzi 10, Nikic 11, Braga, Maric 17, Cester 6, Steuerwald 1. DNP Schwarz, Bartoletti, Lo Bianco. Coach. Zanini.

Important victory for San Giustino in Forli tanks to a brilliant Maric and an excellent Nikic.

Piero Molducci (Yoga Forlì): “We made a lot of mistakes and relied far too often on little drops. On Wednesday, we’re facing Piacenza, a similar game to tonight’s. We’ll see what happens”.

Goran Maric (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it San Giustino): “I am satisfied with this win, obtained in a tough place to go to. Our target? Staying up, we need another two victories to mathematically be safe. Once we’ll be there, we might be able to speak about playoffs. I’m sorry for Forli, I’ve played there and I liked it”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 28-30, 20-18)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Kovacevic 24, Kohut 10, Gitto, Sottile, Pieri (L), Spairani 7, Vujevic 21, Starovic 28. DNP Popelka, Cortina, Labardi, Giombini. Coach. Medei.

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA: Popp 6, Marra (L), Gonzalez 4, Ruiz 13, Perazzolo 5, Nilsson 4, Massari, Zlatanov 24, Holt 12, Tencati 10, Boschi. DNP Piano. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Latina is back on the winning trail after seven consecutive defeats. It needed a marathon of over two hours and a half though to get rid of Piacenza. MVP Vujevic

Goran Vujevic (Andreoli Latina): “It’s been a very difficult game, very tight. There’s been many ups and downs. We faded badly in the fourth but this is normal because we are not training well because of the numerous injured players. We did well to stay in it, and win it in the end against a direct opponent”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Copra Morpho Piacenza): “We can’t afford to waste that much and hope to win. In the tie-break, we were blocked three times, which had not happened in the other sets. The boys are tense on court, but composure is part of the difficulty, we have to understand it”.

M. ROMA VOLLEY – BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE 2-3 (21-25, 23-25, 25-22, 29-27, 12-15)

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Zaytsev 25, Paolucci 2, Lebl 10, Uriarte, Cesarini (L), Corsini, Saraceni 11, Bencz 23, Yosifov 14. DNP Tomatis, Ricci, Corsano, Hoxha. Coach. Giani.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Milushev 26, Rak 7, Cozzi 8, Guglielmi, Guerra 2, Patriarca 4, Falaschi 3, Torre 3, Dvoranen 13, Rodriguez 10, Gallotta 2, Cicola (L). DNP Pagano. Coach. Gulinelli.

Roma lost 3-2 but deserves praise for its reaction after trailing 2-0. They were close to a spectacular comeback victory. MVP Zaytsev.

Martin Lebl (M. Roma Volley): “Disappointed with the first two sets. We got back on track in the third, but I have to congratulate Castellana which was in great form. Little things made the difference in the tie-break, unfortunately we made a couple more mistakes than them”.

Gianluca Saraceni (M. Roma Volley): “We immediately found it hard, we let them impose their game at the beginning. Castellana looked better than us and more determined, but we are not the team seen on court tonight”.

Paolo Cozzi (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “We’re going home with a victory, although we did lose important points, which is something that occurred far too many times. We win but not totally”.

Played Saturday
