Santa Croce won the Italian Cup A2 at the expense of Ravenna 3-0 in Verona. The absence of Sirri, Corvetta and Plesko were just too much for Babini’s team. Santa Croce dominated from start to finish and won its second Cup after the one conquered in 2005.

Stefano Moro (Marcegaglia CMC Ravenna): “Not much to say. Credit to Santa Croce, they played better than us. I don’t think it was a problem of pressure because we have had six days to train and prepare this game. We had a different starting six than usual, with three important pieces that could not make it”.

Maurizio Castellano (Marcegaglia CMC Ravenna): “Congratulations to Santa Croce. In one single game, you win or you lose, and today we lost. We did not manage to play at our usual standard and the consequence was this result”.

Alberto Elia (NGM Mobile Santa Croce): “We knew we had a tough opponent to face. And indeed, it was a hard-fought game. We knew we had to be perfect to beat them, and we have also been patient, we played well in dig and on some important counters. We proved we were a united and strong group, finding the necessary resources to fight back when we are in difficulty, be that today or in the league”.

Vincenzo Tamburo (NGM Mobile Santa Croce, MVP): “I am extremely happy, this is a trophy I was missing. After the first set, I felt tired but the group helped me and the fact it was a final made me fight through it. We did well to be aggressive right from the start and that gave us a psychological edge over Ravenna. In the second set we showed determination to cut the deficit, while in the third we stayed focused until the end”.
