2011 CEV Champions League

Easy wins for Trento and Cuneo. Treviso beaten at the tie-break in Tours

REMAT ZALAU – TRENTINO BETCLIC 0-3 (15-25, 14-25, 20-25) –

REMAT ZALAU: Margarido 1, Nemeth 2, Nagy 12, Maries, Afloarei 5, Laza 3, Josifov 4, Geiger 2, Feher (L), Borota 2. DNP Stoian, Ciortea. Coach. Ovidiu.

TRENTINO BETCLIC: Kaziyski 10, Zygadlo, Vieira De Oliveira, Stokr 9, Leonardi 6, Aprea, Juantorena Portuondo 12, Garcia Pires Ribeiro 5, Della Lunga 2, Colaci (L), Bratoev, Bari (L). DNP Sokolov. Coach. Radostin.

Mission accomplished in Romania for Trentino. The World and European champions are right back in contention for the qualification thanks to their first away win in this season’s Champions League. It defeated Zalau without much trouble.

Radostin Stoytchev (allenatore Trentino Betclic Trentino) “This is an important win, we really wanted the win and three points. We needed to be composed and focused against a team that had made difficult in the past, especially at the beginning of games, for strong teams like Belchatow and Friedrichshafen. However, we have the Club World Championships ahead and have to play better if we want to do well there. Still, today we haven’t made any particular mistake but against the opponent we’ll face next week I don’t know if that’s going to be enough”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – NOLIKO MAASEIK 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-17)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Wijsmans 17, Volkov 6, Parodi 12, Nikolov 11, Mastrangelo 10, Henno (L), Grbic 2. DNP Peda, Patriarca, Carletti, Galic, Fortunato.

NOLIKO MAASEIK: Sidibe 12, Wounembaina 6, Van Harskamp 1, Van Decraen 7, Van De Voorde 1, Derkoningen (L), Radovic 7, Maan 3, Klinkenberg 2, Eloi, Deroey. DNP Van Kerckhove.

Cuneo needed just over an hour to get rid of Maaseik as it performed excellently in every department of the game, especially on the serve (10 aces).

Alberto Giuliani (allenatore Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Judging Maaseik on this game would not be correct. We have served well and blocked just as well, this was therefore difficult for them to build their game as they would have liked. This will probably be a much tighter game in their gym, and it will be an important game because not only will it decide who goes through, but also in which way it will do so”.

TOURS VB – SISLEY TREVISO 3-2 (24-26, 27-25, 19-25, 25-22, 18-16)

TOURS VB: Lachaise, Redwitz 2, Olteanu 15, Ngapeth 28, D’ Almeida 10, Konecny 17, Konecny 14, Gonzalez (L). DNP Ngapeth, Guittet, Gaouar.

SISLEY TREVISO: Horstink 11, Szabo, Papi 9, Maruotti 1, Kovar 4, Fei 37, Farina (L), De Togni 4, Bontje 9, Boninfante 1, Bjelica 7. DNP Pujol.

Another defeat for Treviso in the Champions League. This time it was extremely tight as the game lasted over two hours. Treviso is now bottom. The next game will be against Tours again.

Roberto Piazza (allenatore Sisley Treviso): “We lost two great opportunities to win the match. The first one, in the second set, and then in the fourth. When it’s tight like this, anything can happen. Kovar, for example, was hit in the last action by the ball which was going out. Our counter has not been very effective today, the block-dig combination was better, though. Anyway, now we have to get it together and convert the opportunities that come our way”.
