Monza grabbed its first home win of the season at the expense of Verona. The hosts built its victory around an excellent work at the net and a great performance from Rooney (24 points and 54% in attack).

We showed character, fighting spirit and composure when needed further ahead in the encounter. We were extremely motivated, we expected a tough encounter and immediately began with the right spirit. We did extremely well in reception and in the dig-block combination too. The rest came naturally. We are getting better little by little and we are getting back to a good physical fitness. We are on the right track mentally too”.

In my opinion, at the end of the first and fourth set, some mistakes from the refs altered the results. We have a week to work, to improve and get ready for the game against Cuneo. We are no favourites but we have to do everything we can to get as much as we can out of it. The injuries are certainly not helping us, Cozzi still has to recover from his adductor injury, and Rodriguez was close to suffer an ankle injury today but he should be fine. As for the outside hitter, this is a situation I have to evaluate week after week according to the performances in games and training of the two. The one that deserves it will be on court”.
