Serie A1 Round 3

Trento and Macerata on winning streak. Treviso stops champs in five sets.

SISLEY TREVISO – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 3-2 (22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 30-28, 15-12) –

SISLEY TREVISO: Szabo, Fei 21, Horstink 22, Kovar, Papi 5, Farina (L), Boninfante, De Togni 6, Bontje 6, Pujol 1, Maruotti 8, Bjelica 12. DNP Vanin. Coach. Piazza.

Treviso rallied from a two-set deficit to hand the Italian champs its first defeat of the season. Papi MVP.

Samuele Papi (Sisley Treviso): “Great performance full of pride from us, we had not gone that bad either in the first two sets. Our hard work paid off in the second part of the game. This win will give us confidence”.

Dante Boninfante (Sisley Treviso): “The key moment came in the third set when we managed to convert the clutch points. Then, Samuel Papi came on, he gave us confidence and from then on, everything became easier. Everybody did well, congratulations to everyone”.

Alberto Giuliani (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Dante Boninfante changed the course of the game. His impact was emoziona and he was decisive at the end of the game. At this time of the year, it is normal to have ups and downs in games but it was real collective suicidal for us in the fourth set. We’ll have to work on that aspect. Nikola Grbic sprained his left ankle, we’ll see how it goes this week”.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-23) –

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 1, Leonardi 1, Birarelli 7, Della Lunga 10, Juantorena 12, Vieira De Oliveira 2, Sala 9, Bratoev 1, Sokolov, Colaci (L), Stokr 13, Bari (L). DNP Zygadlo. Coach. Stoytchev.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Rauwerdink 4, Krumins, Forni 4, Molteni 2, Buti 3, Rooney 5, Travica 2, Gavotto 15, Shumov 3, Exiga (L). DNP Cetrullo, Zito, Alborghetti. Coach. Monti.

The Pala Trento gym worked as a fortress again as Trentino collected its third victory of the season. After Castellana and Piacenza, it was Monza’s turn to be sent home in straight sets. Della Lunga MVP.

Dore Della Lunga (Itas Diatec Trentino): “In the first two sets we played very well, while they did not seem to play at their best. The third set was tighter because we faded, but we fortunately managed to seal it despite the fact they were back in it. We’ll only keep the three points from those games, without thinking that what was done reflected too much the real value of each team. Monza is worth much more than today’s 3-0 score”.

Marco Molteni (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We have to build on that third set, the attitude ha sto be the one of that last set. We can’t afford to behave like we did in the first two sets against such teams, we have to attack every single ball. Even in the third, we could have handled better a few situations. Besides, bad luck came into it with Sala’s ace, and then the set went Trentino’s way. We’ll have to analyse what went wrong on Tuesday and build on the level of play we showed in the last set”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 33-31) –

ANDREOLI LATINA: Kovacevic 19, Popelka, Kohut 4, Sottile 3, Pieri (L), Spairani 5, Vujevic 8, Starovic 22, Giombini 1. DNP Gitto, Cortina, Nonne, Labardi. Coach. Medei.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Rivera Caamano 9, Coscione, Suljagic 4, Anderson 14, Simeonov 19, Ananiev 1, Barone, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 7. DNP Feroleto, Ferraro, Kindgard, Baroti. Coach. Di Pinto.

Latina took maximum points at home at the expense of Vibo Valentia in what has been a spectacular game. MVP Kovacevic.

Giampaolo Medei (Andreoli Latina): “A tough game which we managed to finish off in three sets. It was a very competitive game but we have to improve our technique. We had the chance to seal it first but in the moment of difficulty we did not put our heads down and showed character”.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “It was the kind of game I feared. There was a huge difference in the technique and experience. Players like Vujevic, who I had the honour to coach, and Kovacevic, who is one of the strongest spikers in the world, are absolutely first class. Then the Sottile-Starovic combination is top quality too. Still, we did fine too. We have to find our rhythm because we haven’t played friendly games. We have improved as the game wore on and played face to face in the end”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-23) –

Third consecutive victory without conceding a single set for Macerata. The victim of the day is San Giustino.  Omrcen MVP.

Mauro Berruto (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “The team was solid, good and reliable, capable of finding its best level and take over. In the difficult moment, we got back in the game thanks to some good digging, we’ve never lost our way, and this is something that makes me really satisfied. Everybody did well, this team has great individual players, who can really make the difference together. Now, we’ll be waiting for the game against Trento with confidence, the first one against a very important team. A team that will fight to win all the possible trophies. Hopefully, we’ll have Savani with us: we will immediately check how serious is his injury, hopefully nothing too serious”.

Emanuele Zanini (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it San Giustino): “Macerata is a great team, and you can’t give anything away to the great teams. They kept a high rhythm of play, we manage to keep it up but in the end, we paid cash every little mistake”.

Castellana Grotte grabbed its first point in the A1 in history despite losing the first two sets to Verona which eventually clinched it at the tie-break. Meoni MVP.

Paolo Cozzi (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “Right now our glass is half empty. We only have flashes of good play and that inconsistency cost us the first and second set. We have to understand we can’t afford to make that many mistakes because in the A1 you get punished. In my opinion, we threw away a great opportunity to get three points”.

Marco Meoni (Marmi Lanza Verona): “I think Paolo Cozzi played very well, he’s the one who deserved the award. I’m glad to have played well on my comeback but the road to full recovery is still long. Shame we did not convert the two match point but coming away with a win is already a great result”.

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA – CASA MODENA 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-20) –
