Serie A1 TIM

Trento extends its lead at the top. Monza upset Macerata, which lose group on Treviso and gets leapfrogged by Piacenza. Modena is tied.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 3-1 (25-21, 14-25, 27-25, 25-20) –

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA: Sivula 1, Rauwerdink 11, Krumins, Semenzato, Haldane, Tuominen 1, Forni 5, Molteni 13, Buti 8, Travica 4, Gavotto 21, Exiga (L). DNP Pesenti. Coach. Berruto.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Raymaekers 1, Cisolla 15, Paparoni, Vermiglio, Bartoletti, Stankovic 8, Martino 5, Monopoli, Corsano (L), Omrcen 25, Swiderski 3, Podrascanin 7. DNP Smerilli. Coach. De Giorgi.

Monza’s winning streak continues. The victim of the day is Macerata, who played well for two sets and a half before letting it go. Gavotto led the pack with 22 points.

Dragan Travica (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “We could certainly not take a win for granted, and we trained particularly hard, with a lot of competitive spirit since Tuesday to prepare this game. We really believed we could do it and this win makes us dream now because we get closer to the top teams. Now is not the time to celebrate, however. We have shown our worth, I am very proud, because character is something you acquire day by day, and this is the proof that our sacrifices pay off”.

Alberto Cisolla (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We lacked a bit of accuracy and reaction to win it. And when Monza stepped up a gear, we really struggled, especially in reception. We did not manage to react and really struggled. Unfortunately, it’s tough to lose when it’s so tight. Still, congratulations to them because they played a great game”.

PRISMA TARANTO – TRENKWALDER MODENA 1-3 (27-25, 19-25, 17-25, 23-25) –

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 14, Ricciardello (L), Cozzi 11, Suxho 2, Westphal 3, Elia 6, Rodrigo Pinto 18, Quartarone, Bartman 12. DNP Candellaro, Montagna, Moretti. Coach. Serniotti.

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Manià (L), Kooistra 10, Cuturic 3, Dennis 3, Kooy, Biribanti 23, Esko 3, Casoli 9, Diaz Mayorca 18, Piscopo 9. DNP Ciabattini, Soli, Pagni. Coach. Prandi.

Biribanti’s entry for Dennis at the end of the first set proved key for Modena’s win over Taranto, which was, as usual, capable of the best and the worst. Biribanti MVP.

Roberto Serniotti (Prisma Taranto): “It’s disappointing, we played like always, in flashes. But we might have deserved to push it to the tie-break, though. The reparation of the net in the second set ended up penalising us because up to 6 all, we were playing well and were very focused. Then, we just couldn’t find our rhythm, we got nervous and made mistakes”.

Francesco Biribanti (Trenkwalder Modena): “I am satisfied with my performance. I always prepare to be ready whenever needed. I found my rhythm straight away and I think I maintained a good level, just like the whole team, which remained focused even after the interruption. This is an important victory because we have a better position in the table now, tied with Macerata”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (22-25, 25-22, 20-25, 32-34) –

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Sottile 1, Della Lunga 1, Lasko 22, Kovar 14, Curti, Holt 14, Colaci (L), Kromm 11, Howard 9. DNP Groppi, Peslac, Galabinov. Coach. Bagnoli.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 23, Gallosti (L), Birarelli 5, Portuondo Juantorena 25, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Vissotto Neves 3, Sala 2, Fedrizzi, Sokolov 18, Corsini, Herpe, Bari (L). DNP Zygadlo. Coach. Stoytchev.

Both teams played at an excellent level and with heart. The five thousand supporters recognised that. In the end, the World Champion, Trento, clinched a 3-1 win in Verona. The 32-34 fourth set was a game of its own. Sokolov is the one that turned things around but Juantorena was MVP thanks to his 25 points (4 aces and 4 blocks).

Daniel Howard (Marmi Lanza Verona): “It’s definitely been a great game, shame we didn’t get what would have been a valuable point. We should have tried to seal it first in the fourth set. Trentino did well to put us under pressure at that moment. Now, we have to figure out what we can improve on and get ready for the next home game against Monza”.

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “It’s been a long and really good game. It was important for us to seal it in the fourth set because anything could have happened in the fifth. It was an intense game, in which Verona was tough and united at the net. Still, we reacted as usual, as a team and once again, this was the right way to go”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-23) –

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Gonzalez 4, Corvetta, Andrae 15, Simeonov 16, Quiroga 11, Tencati 6, Barone 6, Cicola (L). DNP Cannistrà, Marquez, Ferraro, Moltò. Coach. Uriarte.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Henno (L), Parodi 9, Fortunato 6, Jeroncic, Nikolov 18, Grbic 2, Peda 1, Mastrangelo 2, Patriarca 6. DNP Ariaudo, Nuti, Pieri, Mulatero. Coach. Giuliani.

A brilliant Vibo Valentia team defeated the second team of the league Cuneo. It showed it was still alive and gave its fans a great show. It seemed to be the Vibo that many had seen a few months ago, when the team was winning and convincing.

Vincenzo Simeonov (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “A crucial win for us, which goes to show that this team has what it takes to finish this championship on the up. We believed in our chances right from the start and I think the three points are well deserved”.

Alberto Giuliani (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “This is a defeat that hurts. We made too many mistakes, in key moments of the game too”.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-16) –

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Rak 5, Mazza (L), Grassano, Boninfante 4, Sequeira 8, Zlatanov 14, Bravo 9, Rinaldi (L), Urnaut 5, Bjelica 8. DNP Boschi, Massari, Oivanen. Coach. Lorenzetti.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Perez Moreno 9, Lampariello 5, Henrique 1, Sborgia 3, Di Franco 7, Perazzolo 10, Armeti (L). DNP Ravellino, Modica, Centorame. Coach. Fant.

Not much more than a formality for the Italian champs, which beat Pineto in straight sets. Despite being without Meoni and Marshall, the difference of level is too evident. MVP: Vladir Sequeira.

Roberto Fant (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): ”We only play one set well per game, today it was in the third, but when it mattered we couldn’t hang in there anymore”.

Dante Boninfante (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “They had nothing to lose. It was important for us to find our rhythm with this new starting six. We are getting better game after game. We’ll be facing very important games now, starting with the one in Poland, which will not be easy and next Sunday against Treviso, against which we’ll fight for a good position before the playoffs”.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-2 (27-25, 27-25, 23-25, 22-25, 15-9) –

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT  PERUGIA: Hubner 5, Savani 10, Bucaioni, Cernic 17, Nemec 2, Botti 6, Ogurcak 3, Sintini 1, Pippi (L), Stokr 24, Bovolenta 6. DNP Lo Bianco, Fanuli. Coach. Di Pinto.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Van Den Dries 1, Gitto, Cortina (L), Giovi (L), Saitta 3, Snippe 1, Nikic 14, Geric 8, Vujevic 18, Spairani 11, Giombini 19. DNP Fabroni. Coach. Medei.

The only tie-break on this round was played in Perugia and the host won it, leaving just a point to Latina, although an important one for them in their fight to stay up. Perugia found itself without spiker Savani for two sets, while Latina had to make do without setter Fabroni.

Goran Vujevic (Andreoli Latina): “We gifted too many important points at the end of the first two sets. Still, we add a point to our tally in the table, which is really crucial to stay up. Next Sunday against Loreto, we have to take control and take as many points as possible”.

Cristian Savani (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “Personally, I still believe in the playoffs, I’ve been thinking about it since the beginning of the season and I think this is the case of the whole team. We have lost a point against Latina, but we have still four games left, it’s not all over yet. Our targets remain the playoffs and the Challenge Cup”.

Played on Saturday 27 February
