Four Italian teams out of five had positive debuts in European cup compeitions. In the Champions League, Trentino showed all its character and heart to get back from 2-0 down and win it at the tie-break in Athens against Olympiacos. Macerata dominated Innsbruck at home but Piacenza was defeated in straight set in Freidrichshafen, Germany. In the Cev Cup, Cuneo needed just over an hour of play to get rid of Swiss team of Amriswil and put a foot in the 8th of final. Finally, in the Challenge cup, Perugia conceded the third set to the Byelorussians of Zhlobin but the rest of the game was pretty much one-way traffic for the Italians
