Three teams share third position: Macerata, Treviso and Piacenza. Treviso entertains Monza, while the Italian champs will fight it out with Perugia. Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 51 (26-25 Cuneo)

Alessandro Paparoni (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Given the situation in the table, this game against Cuneo is almost a final for us as we aim for a spot in the top four. It might not be totally decisive given that, with two more games to play and seeing how tight it is, anything could still happen. Still, it is surely a very important one. Two top teams facing each other, anything can happen, but we’ll have to make the home court advantage count. We count a lot on the support of our fans, who cannot miss out on this game”.

Daniele Vergnaghi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “It will be an important exam because the match is decisive for both teams which think about the Italian cup. Macerata will be up for it, fighting for the top positions in the league. It will be a useful test to evaluate our level of play. A quarter final game at home  in the cup could be at stake. The group is confident and we are positive concerning Wijmans’ situation (flu)”.

Prisma Taranto – Esse-ti Carilo Loreto

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 8 (5-3 Taranto)

Cleber De Oliveira (Prisma Taranto): “We didn’t do that bad against Macerata either. The game was electric, details decided it. I’m sure we will make amends against Loreto. It’s a must win game even if we can’t underestimate the opponent, which reminds me a bit last year’s Pineto in terms of character”.

Paolo Politi (Esse-ti Carilo Loreto): “We’re going to Taranto extremely motivated: the victory against Latina brought great enthusiasm. We know it will be a tough one in Taranto, because they are technically excellent, and also because they will have the support of their fans. Still, we’ll try to play our game and take points home”.

Itas Diatec Trentino – Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 2 (2 successi Trento)

Radostin Stoytchev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Sokolov’s injury suffered last Thursday at Forli will probably forced us to forward Leandro Vissotto’s comeback. I wanted to make him rest more before the Champions League game but chances are I won’t be able to do so. Having Athens in mind, the Pineto encounter will be an important test. We want the three points to make one step further toward the top spot in regular season at the halfway point of the season and to keep our winning streak going”.

Mauro Talleri (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “They are the world champions, so it’s useless to insist on how good they are and how difficult will be the game. This will be one to use to prepare future more accessible encounters. In a way, it is a similar game than the one against Cuneo: Our opponent did not allow us to play and try anything and it’s likely to be the case again this Sunday. We have to think about ourselves and find the best understanding possible as soon as we can”.

CoprAtlantide Piacenza – RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 27 (16-11 Piacenza)

Dante Boninfante (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “Important game, we have been losing at home recently and we have to change that. It won’t be easy by any means against Perugia because it is a well-balanced and quality team in every area of the game. We have to play with the right competitive spirit again and get back to winning. Then, we’ll make a step at a time, we’ll think to improve our game. For now, the fundamental thing is to gather points”.

Andrea Sartoretti (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “Piacenza had injury problems in its last game against Treviso, it missed two starters which it could have back against us. We must expect a real battle, another really tough encounter. This must be an opportunity to improve for us. Let’s think about the Italian Cup: there are three games to go and every match is decisive to conquer a place in this cup, which is our first target this season”.

Sisley Treviso – Acqua Paradiso Monza

PAST ENCOUNTERS : None

Garcia Ricardo (Sisley Treviso): “We’ll have to be very careful: we had a good performance in our last game, shame Horstink got injured, he was greatly contributing but Samuele Papi is showing great consistency and brings his energy on court. Monza is a tough opponent, a good mix of youth, athleticism and experience with individual players capable of making the difference: They’ll come to Treviso all out. What will make the difference for us is our mentality, our will to fight on every ball and avoid ups and downs, especially in the key moments. Let’s try to follow Piacenza’s winning streak and make steps forward in the table”.

Mauro Berruto (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “The results obtained should not make us forget about our only target: continue to improve. We’ve learned to handle the games better compared to the beginning of the championship as we’ve shown against Verona. We had a good end to the game as opposed to our poor start and this made the difference. As I said, we cannot be distracted. Let’s keep thinking one game at a time and the next one is Treviso, a prestigious club that has once again put together a great team, to face in the Palaverde. Undoubtedly a marvellous challenge”.

Trenkwalder Modena – Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 8 (5-3 Modena)

Angel Dennis (Trenkwalder Modena): “The win in Perugia, be that for the point or the way it came about, has been very important and gave us great motivation. We are straight back on court with three crucial games against Vibo, Forli and Pineto: the biggest mistake would be to underestimate the opponent. If we want to stay amongst the first in the table, we can’t lower our concentration. Vibo is a quality team, we’ll need to play with intensity and focus if we want to win it”.

Luca Tencati (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “It will be difficult in Modena, they are playing great volleyball, testimony is their league position. It’s always special to play at the Palapanini, the atmosphere is special. Personally, I’ll be very happy to go back there, and meet a few friends and relatives. We prepared the game very well, we had a few extra days to rest. This gave us the opportunity to carry out more specific training sessions, alternating the load of work. Hopefully, we’ll get home with a good result”.

Marmi Lanza Verona – Yoga Forlì

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 15 (8-7 verona)

Daniele Sottile (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We have to reflect on the defeat against Monza but at the same time we have to think about the Forli game. It will be another difficult game. The tension will be high, they need points and we’ve just lost our last encounter”.

Marco Loglisci (Yoga Forlì): “The Trento game was a step back compared to our outings against Perugia and Treviso. We want to take points in Verona, we’ll have to play better and force our serve too, we served too weakly on Thursday. At this time of the season, I’m happy with my form, but that doesn’t matter if the team doesn’t gather points. I think this will be a good battle”.
