It all began with a minute silence in memory of Marcello Gabana: Moved faces all around and great applause as the photo of the chairman was projected in the gym. Then the game started, and a spectacular one at that. Thanks to the pair Omrcen-Cisolla, the hosts flew to a one-set lead but a different Monza team entered into the second set, with a great Molteni in attack and an amazing Exiga in dig. Macerata had managed to keep up before losing it on a yellow card that stopped Vermiglio’s complaints. Berruto’s boys kept doing well in the third, but just when it seemed they had it under control they had to surrender to the class of Martino, who had come on for Paparoni. In a tight fourth set, Macerata could count on a super Cisolla that helped to snatch it 28-26.
Ferdinando De Giorgi (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “It’s been a very intense game. We played as we had planned to. Our attitude improved compared to recent outings, we managed to come on top in important situations. Martino ? His substitution was a tecnical decision, I have a lot of good players at my disposal and my decision depend exclusively on what I see and evaluate during the training week. Matteo’s contribution was crucial, he had a really great impact on the game”.
