The fixture list came out this morning in Bologna as the first official evento f the 2009-10 season. The first round of the Serie A will occur on the 27th of September. The A1 regular season will end on the 21th of March while the A2 will go on until the 3rd of April. 


The new season will come with new formulas, be that in the league or in the cup and for both divisions.


 


SERIE A1 TIM – There will be 26 round in the A1 all together. There will be a break for the World Grand Champions Cup from the 12th to the 18th of November. There will be three midweek rounds: on the 7th of October, on the 11th of November and on the 17th of March. There will only be one team going down instead of two, while 8 teams will qualify for the playoffs.


 


PLAYOFFS SERIE A1 TIM – The quarter finals will be played on the best of 3 games, while the semis and the final will be played on the best of five encounters. The quarters will begin on the 31st of March and will end, with the possible game 3, on the 11th of April. The semi finals will take place between the 15th and 28th of April, while the league final will be played from the second to the 16th of May.


 


SERIE A2 TIM –  The A2 regular season will be made of 30 rounds. The first ten classified teams will go through to the playoffs to fight to be the only team promoted in the A1 (The regular seson winner will not go up this season). The number of team going down will be 4. There will only be one midweek round, on the 10th of March.


 


PLAYOFF SERIE A2 TIM – Teams classified from first to tenth place at the end of the regular season will take part in the playoffs. The top six will go directly through to the quarter finals. Teams classified from 7th to 10th place will play the eighth of final on the best of three games. The top six and the two winners coming from the eighth of final will play the quarters, then semis and final on the best of three games. The winner will go up in the A1.


 


PLAY OUT RETROCESSIONE – The teams finishing in 15th and 16th position will go directly down to the B1. The know the other two teams to go down, it will be necessary to check the point difference between the 11th and 14th classified team. If it was to be of 9 points or above, the 11th team will be safe, and the point difference between the 12th and 13th team will be checked. If it is of four of above, the 12th team will be safe and there won’t be any play outs. If the difference between the 11th and 14th position is less than 9 points, there will be the playouts: 11th vs 14th and 12th vs 13th. This will be played on the best of three.


 


TIM CUP A1 – The top eight teams at the halfway point of the championship will take part in it. The quarter finals will be played in one single game in the house of the best classified team. The winners will qualify for the Final Four.


 


TIM CUP A2 – The top eight teams at the halfway point of the championship will take part in it. The quarter finals will be played in one single game in the house of the best classified team. The winners will go through to the semi finals, still played in one single game in the gym of the best classified team.


 


EVENTI – The League events are definitely not to be missed. The season will start with the Super Cup on the 20th of September in Frosinone between the Champions, Piacenza, and the Cup winners, Macerata. The big celebration of the Tim All Star Volley is scheduled on Sunday 22 November. Then, given the great success of last season, it has been decided that the A1 Cup Final Four would occur on the 30th and 31st of January, together with the A2 Cup final.
