The league leaders forgot about last weekend’s disappointment in Prague and qualified for the league semi final. Treviso came out defeated again from the PalaFontescodella gym and not even the comeback of Stefan Hubner could stop De Giorgi’s men. Treviso had began the game well, taking advantage of Vermiglio and co’s mistakes on the serve, but then it did not manage to limit Macerata’s attack as it got better, mainly with Igor Omrcen and Matteo Martino.
Piacenza is used to falling behind before forcing its serve and blasting ahead to get to the 25th point first. It always happens like this except for the third set, in which Piacenza struggled in reception. Cristian Savani seemed to be the only reliable one for Perugia in clutch time, already to smash it down, while Marco Meoni was Mvp for Piacenza. He imposed his rhythm and got Zlatanov working on all cylinders (23 points), as Piacenza qualifies for the fifth semi final of its history.
Trentino had all the trouble in the world again to overcome Vibo Valentia. Just like in game 1, Vibo led twice, and just like in game 1, they came back home with the disappointment of just missing the breakthrough and lacking that little something that could have sealed the game for them.

We managed to come out on top with great character. We could hardly do more after the Champions League games”.
Luis Diaz (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We come out of the playoffs with our heads high. We can’t say we’re made up but we are satisfied with the performances we had against the Italian champions. It was not easy to come back here and force them to a tie-break. We managed to do it even though we are still a bit disappointed to have come so close to create the upset and that Contreras got injured in the fourth set. Still, our season has been a positive one”.
