EUROPEAN CUPS

TRENTO, MACERATA and CUNEO THROUGH

Some good and bad news came out of this European night for the Italian clubs. In the Champions League, Trentino remained unbeaten in the competition beating Maiorca 3-0 and going through to the quarter finals.

Macerata made it to the next round too. It forced fenerbahce to a tie-break, lost, but marches on thanks to the first leg result.

On the other hand, Piacenza crashes out. Lorenzetti’s boys, who were finalists last season, had lost at the tie-break at home against Czestochowa and couldn’t find the resources to turn things around, as they were defeated 3-0 in Poland.

The Polish team will be Trentino’s next opponent in the quarters, while Macerata will face Kazan, the holders.

In the Cev Cup, Cuneo obtained its pass to the Final Four by beating the Austrians from Vienna in the Challenge Round second leg. Lokomotiv-Belogorie is another team that already qualified for the Final Four.

Treviso’s run in the Challenge Cup was stopped just before the Final Four by the Polish team of Jastrzebski Wegiel. The first leg tie-break win at home proved insufficient as it was knocked out on a 3-1 second leg score.
