European Cups
Champions League and Cev Cup draws
The draw for the Champions League 8th of final and the Cev Cup quarter finals has been done.
There won’t be any Italian derby, at least for now. The danger remains because, if Piacenza and Trentino both go through to the next stage, a derby will be certain. Before that, they will have to face respectively the Polish team of AZS Czestochowa and the Spaniards of Maiorca.
The other Italian team, Macerata, has been drawn with Fenerbahce Istanbul from Turkey. Macerata stands at the top of the draw, which means they will face prestigious but tough opponents. If they were to go through, they would meet the holders Kazan, from Russia. If there were to be two Italian teams in the semis, a derby would be unavoidable.
As for the Cev Cup, Cuneo will face Vienna, Austria, team that was knocked out of the Champions League in Trentino’s group.
