SERIE A1 TIM

Great emotions in the first return games

Record set in  Martina Franca: 7-25,

It all started with some surprises with the league leaders, Macerata, losing in Martina Franca. De Giorgi’s team lost the first two sets before setting a new record in the third with a 25-7 win, the biggest ever margin in the Serie A1. Still Martina Franca sealed it in the fourth.

In the Palaverde gym, Forli managed to defeat Cisolla and co 3-1 away from home. These are three precious points in its aim to stay up. Tuba proved to be the key man as he was named MVP.

Modena won in Padova on the same score, as coach Zanini grabs his second consecutive away win. Sidão shined with 14 points with no less than 7 blocks.

There was another away win with Piacenza coming back from Vibo Valentia with the 3 points (3-1). Zlatanov and Marshall combined for 38 points.

In the evening, Montichiari was surprised in its home gym by a Perugia team led by an outstanding and MVP Cristian Savani.

In Roseto degli Abruzzi, Pineto hoped to create the upset after taking the first set 25-17 but Cuneo is a tough opponent. Indeed, Wijmans and Nikolov had a different outcome in mind and they led their team to victory, consolidating its third place.

Live on Sky Sport from the PalaTrento gym, Trentino had the better of Verona in straight sets. Vissotto and Winiarski combined for 36 points for the hosts, who get back on top of the league thanks to this win.

Next round is on Tuesday 6th of January.

Gianni DOnghia (Stamplast Martina Franca): “The boys had an exceptional performance. They did well, especially after losing the third set so clearly, to regain their concentration in the fourth set. I couldn’t have wished for a better home debut. This win goes to the club and my family”.

Sebastian Swiderski (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Martina played very well, we have to forget this game because we started off too slow. They were very aggressive on the serve and we made an awful lot of mistakes in reception. Besides, we struggled to create our plays, not one area of the game worked out decently for us”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – COPRA NORDMECCANICA PIACENZA 1-3 (26-28, 19-25, 25-23, 22-25)

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Ditlevsen, Contreras 3, Cozzi 10, Sammelvuo 15, Vieira De Oliveira 4, Ferraro (L), Diaz Mayorca 8, Simeonov 15, Divis 4, Barone, Shumov 3, Bozidis, Cicola (L). Coach. Gulinelli Flavio.

Ventceslav Simeonov (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We knew we were facing a good team, who proved to be in good form. Now we have to fight for points right from the next game. I’ve seen the other results and it’s all very tight again in the league now”.

Joao Paolo Bravo (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “It was another tough game against a Vibo team that is improving and we knew it. The difference in the fourth was our incisiveness which we created by receiving and digging hard”.

ANTONVENETA PADOVA – TRENKWALDER MODENA 1-3 (14-25, 25-17, 17-25, 23-25)

ANTONVENETA PADOVA: Garghella (L), De Togni 2, Meggiolaro, Maniero, Raymaekers 4, Kral 9, Mattera, Gato 6, Perazzolo, Kromm 21, Maruotti 15. DNP Gottardo. Coach. Bagnoli Bruno.

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Lee 2, Tencati, Kooistra 22, Rinaldi (L), Dennis 13, Sartoretti, Santos 14, Travica 2, Siebeck, Pagni, Casoli 12. DNP Smuc. Coach. Zanini Emanuele.

Bruno Bagnoli (Antonveneta Padova): “Not only did Mattera caught a flu on the eve of the game, but the game started badly as well for us. We struggled a lot against a well-organized team and the poor performance from Gato did not help us”.

Emanuele Zanini (Trenkwalder Modena): “We obtained some important points which will prove crucial to reach our targets. We’re slowly getting better, be that technically or mentally. We have to keep going with this attitude”.

SISLEY TREVISO – YOGA FORLI 1-3 (25-23, 19-25, 22-25, 20-25)

SISLEY TREVISO: Fei 10, Hubner 9, Papi 6, Farina (L), Saitta 1, Antonov 6, Endres 14, Cisolla 21, Daldello (L), Garcia 2, Gallotta. DNP Dolfo, Kohut. Coach. Dall’olio Francesco.

Francesco Dall’Olio (Sisley Treviso): “We did not have the right approach, too self-confident at the beginning, and then when the opponent took chances, without pressure, and it went well, we started to lose our confidence and lost our way. We struggle to keep the intensity level high and express our volleyball, which would help us win such games”.

Piero Molducci (All. Yoga Forli): “We recognised well the situation of the game, especially at the net and digging. Still, I’d say that the secret of this victory in the PalaVerde was the team effort, we pulled together and we gave 100 percent. We have Tuba back, he’s crucial as outside hitter and on the serve, he gave us confidence in attack. And Henno helped us a lot in reception. I’m happy for the team, we won against an irregular Treviso team, but that was not easy and we can be happy with the three points”.

FRAMASIL PINETO – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 1-3 (25-17, 19-25, 20-25, 16-25)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Wijsmans 18, Gonzalez 5, Fortunato 9, Vergnaghi (L), Jeroncic 3, Nikolov 19, Nuti, Curti 4, Abbadi 3, Biribanti 1, Pieri (L), Platenik 11. Non entrati Ariaudo. Coach. Prandi Silvano.

Paolo Montagnani (Framasil Pineto): “We fought hard, but in the end against such strong team, it’s always difficult to win. We keep working to prepare the future games, which will be very important for our league position”.

ACQUA PARADISO GABECA MONTICHIARI – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA 0-3 (22-25, 18-25, 23-25)

Loris Mani (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “That is what we can call an off-day. It all went wrong, we never managed to play our game and get in the game. Congratulations to Perugia, who had an excellent match. We just have to get back to work and regain our confidence to get right back on track from Tuesday night”.

Cristian Savani (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “It all went perfectly. We needed this result, we wanted to bounce back after failing to qualify for the Italian Cup Final Eight. Hopefully, we’ll keep playing this way. On Tuesday against Forli, it will be a tough one. Let’s hope we can repeat the score of the first leg”.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-20)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 8, Segnalini (L), Zygadlo, Della Lunga 7, Vissotto Neves 16, Grbic 3, Leonardi 3, Winiarski 16, Bari (L), Piscopo 5. DNP De Paola, Garcia Pires Ribeiro, Stefanov. Coach. Stoytchev Radostin.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli (L), Parodi 8, Popp 9, Sottile, Lasko 2, Dehne 2, Colaci (L), Maric 6, Semenzato 10, Bontje 1, Mosterts 3. DNP Volpini. Coach. Giuliani Alberto.

Radostin Stoytchev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “It’s a good win, more for the result than for the level of play, even if we did not play that bad after all. We really wanted those three points because that allow us to get back on top of the league. Without Riad and Birarelli it was not easy to win it 3-0 against Verona but we made it thanks to an amazing team effort in which Winiarski exploded, he’s really an amazing player”.

Alberto Giuliani (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Trentino played very well on the serve, forcing us almost all the time to play a predictable high ball in attack. Our problems started all from there. We struggled more than the usual to pass with Lasko and Popp”.
