Perugia deserves credit for winning the important games against direct opponents. The Pineto game was one of them, decisive to keep its chance to qualify for the Italian Cup Final Eight alive, and Perugia did not disappoint. Di Pinto’s team, led by an inspired Sintini, made it a sweep away from home, meaning Perugia stands in 8th position in the table. Besides, it also handed Verona and Treviso its ticket to the Final Eight, as they can’t mathematically be caught up by the 9th. Meanwhile, Sintini and co will have to sweat some more to get to it, they will host Modena while keeping an eye on the Montichiari Vibo game. Perugia has to get at least one more point than Vibo to qualify. If there was a tie, Vibo would go through thanks to a higher number of wins.
Paolo Montagnani (Framasil Pineto): “When you see your opponent play that well, it’s tough to react for the players on court and it’s as tough for the one son the bench to motivate them. The first set decided the encounter, because their dig completely put us out of it”.
Vigor Bovolenta (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “Perugia is having a good season. At the halfway point of the season we wanted to be between the 6th and 8th place and we’re within reach of this target. Apart from the Forli game, we’ve always won against the teams of our level. We need a win against a big team, and that frustrates us every now and then. Tonight, we played with great determination, with the anger coming from the two consecutive home losses. That had put a question mark on our level, but tonight we not only showed our fundamentals but we also showed our pride. Now we have another important game in 6 days. We’ll be playing our qualification at home against Modena”.
