SERIE A1 TIM

Trentino regain leadership

The 11th round was marked by the change of leader. Indeed, Trentino regained top spot thanks to a 3-0 win in Perugia, while Macerata were defeated at the tie-break in Modena.

Two other games finished on the same score: Piacenza had the better of Martina Franca, and Cuneo beat Padova. In the latter, however, the guests managed to cause a lot of trouble to Wijmans and co, and the 37-35 of the third set is a testimony.

Verona gathered a 3-1 win over Pineto, who had to make do without Simone Buti from the beginning of the second set, as he injured his left ankle.

There was a thrilling encounter at Montichiari’s PalaGeorge gym, where the hosts played with maximum intensity to play face to face with a Treviso team desperate to get back on track. In the end, the hosts had the better in four exciting sets. Amongst the Treviso players, Oleg Antonov had a good debut game as he substituted Fei during the game? However, the main factor was the crowd, with no less than 6.000 people assisting to Gavotto and co’s victory.

Silvano Prandi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Obviously, the result is the most important thing because that’s what dicates our way of playing. We struggled in the second and third set and that gives us something to work on. We were trailing in the third but then we did well to catch them up. We were worried about this game because Padova has excellent players and had just build up some confidence with two consecutive wins. They can do very well on the serve”.

Ramon Gato (Antonveneta Padova): “We could have won the third set, but right now, Cuneo is too strong for us”.

Marco Bonitta (Stamplast Martina Franca): “Congratulation to Piacenza, who played well, especially on the serve and in attack. We have to find our game, without putting our heads down. Our main aim remains to stay up”.

Michal Winiarski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “The key to the game? Our block. We did extremely well in that department, especially in the second set, we got back in it thanks to our blocks. They took some risks on the serve but in the end, they made quite a few mistake”.

Paolo Montagnani (Framasil Pineto): “We fought hard today again, we did well in some aspects. In others I really can’t be satisfied. We have to play at the maximum of our possibility. Alberto Cisolla (Sisley Treviso): “In this period in which we’re performing well, we met Macerata and Cuneo, which are the two most in-form teams of the league. Despite the result, I’m satisfied with the performance, especially from Antonov, who made his debut in one of the tough games of the Italian league, substituting Fei extremely well. Now, we have to work hard to make it to the Italian Cup”.
