QUOTES

Javier Gonzalez (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We’ve just been defeated like Modena. We have to get on court with determination, not like we did in Verona, but rather like we did against Piacenza and then play well. The court will have the last word. The team is in good spirit, everyone knows a loss doesn’t do you good but we are motivated and aware that we’re a strong team. We want to prove it on Sunday, for our amazing fans too, who are always there to support us”.

Andrea Giani (Trenkwalder Modena): “We’ve had a chat after the Piacenza defeat, we analized why we had this performance and above all we worked hard in the gym. It’s been an important week and the work done has been valuable. We know for well that the Cuneo game is a tricky and important one: we have to bounce back but Cuneo too after its KO in Verona. We both need points. All in all this should be a good match up. They’re technically very strong, we’ll go for it with enthusiasm and the right attitude”.

YOGA FORLI – COPRA NORDMECCANICA PIACENZA

Past encounters: In A2, 3 (2-1 Piacenza)

Last game: 2001/02, Italian Cup final game 1. Copra Piacenza Conad Volley Forli 3-2

Records: Massimiliano Di Franco is 9 point away from 1000 in regular season. On the other side of the net, Michal Rak needs 5 block to reach the 200 in regular season.

Giuseppe Patriarca (Yoga Forli): “We were not worth the playoffs after our win over Perugia and neither are we worth the drop now. We have to work hard, that’s where the truth will come from. You’ll see, this team will surprise you”.

Leonel Marshall (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “I’m fine, I recovered and I think I’ll be available for Sunday. My teammates did very well, they made my absence and Falasca’s unnoticed. Last Sunday, they were consistent and concrete, so much so that they beat Modena without leaving them any chance of a comeback”.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO FRAMASIL PINETO

Never met before.

Records: Emanuele Birarelli could reach 1000 points against the team that brought him back in A1 (he needs 6). Nikola Grbic will play its 400th game and Andrea Bari his 200th of regular season.

Emanuele Birarelli (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Pineto is the team that got me back in top volleyball after two years out because of health problems. I have great memories from this A2 season, it will be nice to meet a couple of guys from that season, like Sborgia and Mancini. We will try to keep winning first of all because we’re at home and then we’d like to keep our home record unscathed. It won’t be easy: Pineto already proved it had great character and a disciplined style of play despite it was built almost from scratch this summer. Monday’s nice win over Macerata gave us a lot of energy, we have our determination and will back like in the best periods of last season.

Rafael Luiz Dentinho (Framasil Pineto): “It will be a difficult game against Trento. They’re a great team and they’re playing well right now. Still, we feel good too. The team is more united than ever after the two consecutive wins and this week we worked real hard in training. We’ll go there to go for it, with the aim to get some points. We obviously know this won’t be easy, but we have nothing to lose”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – MARMI LANZA VERONA

Past encounters: 8 (6-2 Macerata)

Last game: 2006/07, 8th round return legs. Marmi Lanza Verona Lube Banca Marche Macerata 3-2

Records: It will be game n° 300 for Daniele Sottile on the Serie A.

Martin Lebl (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Verona is in great form right now, they proved it by defeating three of the biggest teams of this league. We’ll definitely have all the pressure on us as we’re playing home, but on our side, we have a great will to bounce back after our loss against Trento, above all to forget this fourth set played terribly. We’re facing a very tough week ahead, after Verona will follow the Red Star of Belgrade and then Cuneo. To start off with a win would do us a lot of good, not only for our spirit but also for the table”.

Rob Bontje (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Macerata possesses so many strong players. I think the most important ones are Igor Ormcen, who did well so far, and Sebastian Swiderski. We’ll have to go on court just like in all the other games played so far, with heart and playing every ball as a team. We’ll need everyone again on Sunday, not only the seven starters but the whole group just like we did until today”.

ANTONVENETA PADOVA SISLEY TREVISO

Past encounters: 59 (46-13 Treviso)

Last game:Last season, 4th round return games: Sisley Treviso – Antonveneta Padova 3-0

Records: The Venetian derby between Padova and Treviso will be Alessandro Farina’s 300th game in regular season.

Stefano Santuz (DS Antonveneta Padova):  “Treviso’s game is always an exciting one, because the derby is always particular. This is for us to opportunity to challenge one of the strongest teams of the league and we want the team to show progress. Hopefully, I’ll see a determined group of guys, capable of taking advantage of the opportunities that will come our way during the game”.

Renan Dal Zotto (Sisley Treviso): “We’re all physically fine and that’s important. It’s been a good week of training and we kept the rhythm high with a joint session with Bassano. On Sunday, it will be extremely hard, the games in Padova are always great battles and I’m sure they are an excellent team, despite the fact they had a few problems and did not get any results in this beginning of season. Sooner or later, this team will come out good so we’d better be careful. They have some good players that can put us in trouble in any area of the game, but above all in reception, because they have excellent jump-server. We’ll need to play at our best, especially in their house”.

STAMPLAST MARTINA FRANCA – ACQUA PARADISO GABECA MONTICHIARI

Past encounters: 10 (Montichiari 8-2)

Last game: Last season 6th round return games: Prisma Taranto Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari 1-3

Radames Lattari (Stamplast Martina Franca): “The addition of Mastrangelo, although I will not be able to line him up straight away, brought about euphoria in the air after the bad defeat against Treviso. It’s true that Montichiari is no easy opponent. Tactically balanced team led by Berruto, a coach I particularly appreciate for his will to be constantly updated. Wherever he is, the work is always done well”.

Mauro Gavotto (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “Martina Franca is an excellent team and its standing does not reflect its real value. I believe they did not play at the level they are capable of. Montichiari will go there to clinch the three points even if this won’t be easy because when you go down south there are always some electric crowds that support their team. Still, I’m confident, we’re playing well right now”.
