Taranto – Prisma almost safe, Latina demoted. Taranto wins but they have to wait for the last round to celebrate safety which is very likely at this points according to calculation made. At the moment they are ahead on their direct competitors of Padova and Corigliano.

A great performance by Vessotto and Patriarca creates the basis for a deserved success even if suffered in the first part of the match.

The first set, infact, is won by Latina after 4 setballs. But Taranto has to be blamed for it being ahead 10-5 then letting Latina take over and win for 27-29.

In the second set Taranto does not give in and finds a more varied game getting better at serving with two aces and especially at blocking with 4 points. Great stars Rak and Patriarca. Balance up to 13-13 then Taranto runs away and Latina cannot keep up anymore.

The third set is almost identical to the previous one with balance at first then the home team running off led by Patriarca on top form.

In the third set there is almost no match anymore. Gilson fades away for Latina but his team mates lose enthusiasm on which Prisma flies and celebrates a precious success which does not confirm saftey though.

Radamès Lattari: (Prisma Taranto): “There is still time for suffering, it would have been nice to celebrated tonight in front of our supporters. But we needed to win this one to play for safety on the last round.  In Modena it will be difficult because they want the play offs but now we have Corigliano and Padova behind us though”.

Flavio Gulinelli :(Latina): “The championship has been difficult throughout but at some point we did believe in a miracle. The teams has given what they could. Surely after the first set we thought we could have done something better”.

MVP: Leandro Vissotto Neves (Prisma Taranto)

Trento – Itas Diatec Trentino’s home unbeatability has lasted almost a year. It was the 18th of April 2007 when the team was beaten last in front of their supporters, by Cuneo at the time.

Tonight, for their last home match and with PalaTrento sold out, comes the first seasonal defeat. Stopping Stoytchev’s men are the Italian Champions of Sisley Treviso, coming back concentrating on the championsip after the defeat in the Indesit Champions League.

They win for 1-3, allowing the home team to win the third set only. News for Sisley, from the beginning of the match Davide Saitta is in the starting six replacing Pierre Pujol.

At the end of the match, the young setter is voted MVP; good setting for him, just like his personal points, 11: 3 aces, 4 attacks and 4 blocks.

Treviso puts three important points in their standings, becoming unreachable by Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza. Trento, on the other hand, keeps the leadership thanks to an extra victory compared to Cuneo, on the same points.

Excellent performance by Treviso at blocking, 13 points, and at serving, 10, but what made the difference was the blocking-digging correlation. From here the team could counterattack with Fei, Cisolla and Papi always ready to hit.

On the other side, the middle blockers struggle with Kaziyski still top scorer for his team with 21 points.

After the first two sets won by Treviso, Itas Diatec Trentino puts the match back straight, winning the third one. But at the 4th act, the home team have suffered too much after the 10th points. From 10-11, Sisley flies to victory (17-25).

Michal Winiarski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Treviso played better at serving even if their extra weapon was their blocking-digging correlation. Treviso played a great match”.

Stefan Hubner (Sisley Treviso): “There is no reason to make a drama out of it. We worked well at blocking and serving even when we lost the third set. But in the third set, anyhow, you could tell the match was not going to turn around”.

MVP: Davide Saitta (Sisley Treviso)

Macerata – The man everyone was watching, Ivan Miljkovic, back at Fontescodella for the very first time. He will leave with a 2 points victory.

A tasty challenge between two teams facing eachother again after just over a month from the TIM Cup final.

Great start for the home team with new arrival Grapentine. The romans went on court forced to forget about an opaque march. Back on court are both Mastrangelo and Savani and it is thanks to the spiker from Brescia that Roma reduces the gap. Coscione orchestrates the attack and the romans start getting their muscles out. Being taken over does not worry Lube and back from the second TTO they place a 3 points break but still don’ t manage to close the set and it is 22-22. Another exciting finale. The ex Miljkovic conquers the first set point for Roma but before conquering the set they will have to null 4 setballs to their opponents.

The second set is the demonstration of how much the service counts to break stagnant situations in the Rally Point System. First Macerata with Omrcen then Marshall for Roma get important breaks but the teams stay close thanks to efficient sideouts.

This is also the set where the battle between Miljkovic and Omrcen is clearer: the two diagonal players will end the set with the same percentage in attack but for the Croatian there are nine extra balls in attack.

Both teams are playinh head to head, but at the end of the set Gianluca Saraceni and Sebastian Swiderski put an end to it (25-23).

M. Roma Volley gets back on court determined not to leave space to Macerata. Again thanks to their blocking they build direct points and counterattacks which set them ahead by 4 points at the first TTO. Fefè De Giorgi changes the setter and sends Monopoli in for Vermiglio.

And when Roma think they have the set in their pocket, Macerata get their attitude out again. Geric places two aces in a row and brings Lube back on 16-16. M. Roma is more lucid and cynical and 64% in attack speaks for itself.

Macerata grabs the tie break by playing the 4th set with patience, without drama when Roma takes off and they find in the Lebl – Swiderski duo two authentic match winners.

Fontescodella live the fifth set on its toes. M. Roma Volley tries a runner on 10-10, but Macerata is once again good at coming back. Roma goes for 13-10 and even if Omrcen still tries to react, Mastrangelo’s hands on his hands start the end titles.

Ivan Miljkovic (M. Roma Volley): “It is an important victory after a negative trend, it was important to stand up again. We found points and quality in out game, we were very efficient at serving and we must carry on like this”.

Ferdinando De Giorgi (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “A beautiful match for the audience, played on balance. Service decided the match”.

MVP: Sebastian Swiderski (Lube Banca Marche Macerata)

Cuneo – Bre Banca Lannutti gets defeated at tie break in their home match against Andrea Giani’s Cimone Modena and keep their second place in the standings reaching Itas Diatec Trentino on 56 points but not in terms of number of victories (19 against 20 for Trento).

In the match with Modena Cuneo finds captain Wijsmans again, already back against Roma is middle blocker Fortunato; Prandi keeps Felizardo out of the starting six and plays with Curti instead.

The match marks two personal record tonight: Wout Wijsmans reaches 300 blocks and Lasko 3.000 points in Serie A1.

After a first set led by Modena, more efficient in attack and blocking with Dennis and Murilo in the front line (14-25) and the second one is again led by Cimone at the beginning, with Tencati good at blocking and Dennis very incisive; on the other side Bre Banca Lannutti is off in attack – only 29% – and reception.

Turn around in the 3rd set when Prandi’s team finds its verve again, Felizardo is back in the middle, in from the end of the 2nd set, and tehy lead up to 17-25; Lasko puts 7 balls down and Wijsmans scores 6 and an ace.

Bre Banca Lannutti grows more and conquers the 4th set with a super Wijsmans unhooking his team from 10-10 and Lasko carries on with his run helped by Abbadi, on 22-18 gonzalenz goes out due to an injury to his left ankle and and he will not get back in.

Tie break is in the hands of Giani’s men while Cuneo runs after them, 5-8 at the first TTO. Cuneo is good at not giving up and tries to hook onto to their opponents going on 14-14 thanks to 2 points by Felizardo, then Marlon gets his service wrong while Dennis scores an ace (14-16) which is worth the match for Modena.

Silvano Prandi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We played a bad match. Maybe the certainty of the second place gave us too much confidence”.

Andrea Giani (Cimone Modena): “We have won a match which is vital to us, we needed points. The team played well from the beginning making little mistakes, then Cuneo came out shortening the distance. We were good at coming back at tie-break”.

MVP: Angel Dennis (Cimone Modena)

Milano – Sparkling Milano’s trend of home victories stops at 4, after almost 2 hour of battle, surrendering to RPA-LuigiBacchi.it at tie break.

All postponed to sunday for the play offs qualifying with 2 places for 4 teams (Montichiari, Milano, Modena and Perugia).

The match starts head to head and on 10-12 after two consecutive aces by Stokr, Daniele Ricci calls for Time Out and the balance changes: the black&silver go ahead by two points and they keep that forcing Di Pinto to replace Kromm with Kovacevic.

Perugia does not give up though and goes on 20-20 not giving anymore away and winning by 20-25.

The balch&silver start well and after the first TTO they go in 4th gear going on 17-11 soon followed by the other side (17-15). Milano is able to stay ahead, keeping and captain Spairani closes the set on 25-22 with a great block.

Line ups are the same and the set sees the home team going ahead then reached by the opponents on 11-11, then 14-14 and 20-16. The team keeps the advantage winning by 25-23.

Balanced 4th set up to 25-23 again. At tie break Milano starts 4 points behind and Ricci calls for TO. Nothing changes and Perugia wins 10-15.

Daniele Ricci (Sparkling Milano): “We faced a team in great shape and tehy deserved to win by taking advantage of the opponents’ difficulties in the past few matches. They were ready for us and on a good day, given they were coming from a positive trend. For us it was a difficult match”.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “It was a beautiful match, played hed to head a lot and I think we could have won earlier. Shame there were two ref decisions which were not so clear and we even got given a yellow card, which changed the way the match was going. We have been a bit afraid of Giombini and we got scared of blocking him, losing our concentration at times. At the end we deserved to win though”.

MVP: Leondino Giombini

Padova – Montichiari is fighting for a place in the play offs, Padova for safety. Math is not in favour of neither of them yet, having to hope in the last round of the championship.

In the first set Antonveneta Padova marches very well, with Perazzolo scoring

of the 7 points he will score in the whole match. In the second set Padova loses concentration and Veres is very good at taking his men to 21-25.

In the third set the boss is Montichiari again, while Bagnoli’s men lose their diagonal player to physical tiredness giving space to a good De Marchi.

In the 4th set Padova feels demotion’s breath on its neck so the reaction is evil and Luis Diaz explodes in a series of plays which will have him voted MVP despite the defeat.

At tie break it is head to head but in the end Montichiari wins by never giving up.

Bruno Bagnoli (Antonveneta Padova): “Our problem is due to the lack of replacements. That is a problem in training as well because we cannot recreate all the situations we find during a match. We are going to Piacenza to win but it will not be easy because it will all depend on the match between Roma and Corigliano”.
