Modena – RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia wins for 0-3 at PalaPanini in Modena against Cimone. A battle with plenty of mistakes and eagerness for points from the guest team that celebrates at its best the 100 matches in the Regular Season f Jan Stokr, also voted MVP.
The first two sets arr a real battle. The match opens with Perugia’s break against the opponents who make too many mistakes. Nemec’s ace brings them up to 4-9, a difference in points that Cimone is only able to get rid of at the end thanks to Sartoretti and Smuc’s entrance on 21-23. The diagonal player spikes two consecutive balls worth the 23-23 but on their second set ball, Perugia block them with Vujevic closing on 24-26.
With the same score ends the second set which starts with 3 consecutive aces by Vujevic. Then great balance even though Dennis ace on 23-22 gets the home supporters off their seats. Andrè’s attack goes out and Perugia get their first set ball closing the set as soon as they can: Vujevic, from the 9 metres, scores an ace and it is 24-26.
Perugia accellerates (1-3) but Cimone is determines and they go on +3 (14-11). Two consecutive blocks by Nemec and Kovacevic bring the match back (17-17) but in hte end Stokr’s serves give the A for the final break. Perugia goes on 21-24. Murilo’s mistake at blocking closes the set.
Jan Stokr (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “Now the team is playing well, but I do not want to say anything. The only thing that counts is what happens on court”.
Andrea Giani (Cimone Modena): “We knew we were going to meet a team in good shape. We found it difficult to get back to the championship from the International competitions after our victory in the Challenge Cup. Still we regreat losing an important match for the play offs.
We did not manage the service well and also the final parts of the sets which ended head to head”.
MVP: Jan Stokr
