Padova – The second round of the Serie A1 TIM makes history. Andreoli Latina’s away victory sends the grounds factor out of the window for the first time ever: only the 7 formations playing away from their own supporters managed to win this time.
Bruno Bagnoli is forced to give up on Lorenzo Perazzolo in the starting six again, replaced by Francesco De Marchi.
The match starts on balance with both teams using the same strategy: forcing the service. The tactic does not pay off for neither of them who do not score one sce but plenty of mistakes from the nine metres.
The best momenet of the set Andreoli Latina has is in the middle of it when Gilson is serving and Riad is blocking, creating the advantage that pushes Bruno Bagnoli to use the first TO on 15-17. Latina wastes everything and lets Padova take over on 19-18 with an attack by De Marchi: Gulinelli’s men tension grows and he stops the match. Platenik (80% pos. attack) for Padova and Gilson (90% in attack) for Latina take care of the most important balls at the end of the set.
De Marchi signs the set ball with an ace. Impossible to get.
Andreoli Latina knows the importance of the jackpot and in the second set they go on 14-9, using Giordano Mattera lucid directorship. Antonveneta tries to come back with Platenik’s ace going on 20-22 then it is head to head until Latina takes over and Gilson closes the set in their favour.

Gulinelli has to replace Mattera with Ivan Zaytsev due to a knee problem. Latina keeps their concentration, they suffer in reception and the young setter runs miles to serve his men. Antonveneta is then able to block well and tries a winning break on 18-16 bit Latina keeps putting their heart over the net and with an ace by Riad they go on 20-21.
It is head to head again until Maikel Cardona closes with an ace.
Antonveneta does not manage to speed up letting Latina playing their game again. Zanuto finds the right feeling with Zaytsev and breaks Padova’s blocks on 19-17. For the 4th time in 4 sets the teams are head to head in the finale, bit two consecutive blocks seem to let Padova run towards tie break (24-22). Latina resurrects once again winning the match for 3-1, good for their standings and their morale.

Flavio Gulinelli (Andreoli Latina): “We fought, there were many mistakes but we put our blood, heart and sweat in it. Another very dangerous away match is expecting us in Modena. Our championship is a challenge for safety every time we play. Giordano Mattera has had a little problem with his knee since the warm up, but our compliments go to Zaytsev”.
Giorgio De Togni (Antonveneta Padova): “We lost some automatisms. Latina looked like Padova and viceversa today with regards to their attitude and determination. We have to think about the mistakes we made”.
MVP: Gilson (Andreoli Latina)
