Cuneo – The idea of closing the first round in first place is a sweet one for Cuneo, back in great shape after the break. The Winter Champion’s title, in fact, guarantees you certain privileges in the TIM CUP A1 Final Eight, which you do not want to leave to anyone else.

In the first set, RPA-LuigiBacchi.it plays evenly up to 15-15, then under Gonzalez’ service pressure, Vujevic and Pippi lose their perfection in reception. Perugia’s attacks lack in variety and Cuneo starts digging and attacking with great efficacy.

In the second set you can see the same script, the guests trouble Bre Banca Lannutti with Kromm and Vujevic but cannot stand up to Cuneo’s coral performance. RPA makes 12 mistakes which could have been points and Wijsmans and Co. start smiling on 2-0.

Back on court, Silvano Prandi rests Gonzalez replaced by Merlon, but the service efficacy does not go down: it is captain Wijsmans to show that Cuneo wants a victory at all costs. Perugia does not give up and tries to get back in the match but Cuneo does not take risks, increasing their rhythm as soon as they go over the 21st point.

javier Gonzalez (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We prepared really well for the match, taking advantage of this break. We had no players away with their own national teams and the good work in the gym shows on court. The Winter Champions’ title is my way of saying thank you to Bre Banca and presiden Lannutti for believing in me”.

Francesco Dall’Olio (RPA- LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We played evenly up to 20, then at the end of the set we made too many mistakes and Cuneo did some excellent stuff. We have interpreted the service well, but lacked in attack and with Cuneo you cannot give anything away”.

MVP: Javier Gonzalez (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo)

Great performance by Matey Kaziyski with 30 points; Itas Diatec, overall, shines with 13 aces and 17 successful blocks.

The match starts with Vladimir Nikolov being given the TIM MVP for the month of december by Diego Mosna, Trento’s and the Volleyball League’s president.

Trento is still playing without Winiarski, replaced by Della Lunga. It’s The Itas Diatec’s spiker himself who signs the first set, straight after the second TTO. With three consecutive aces brings his team on 20-16, enough to win the first set for 25-20.

The second set is a lot more balanced, closed on duce. Trento is the winner again with Mliakov taking advantage of the third set ball. Same in the third set when Andreoli actually has the strength to go on +4. The set ends on 28-30 after a yellow card for Grbic for protesting.

Andreoli finds some courage again in the 4th set and takes control of the game. The guests attack does not have any obstacles, led by Mattera. It is 18-25 in the end.

We come to tie break and it’s 15-12 in the end but Andreoli has proven they never give up, trying to kepp up with the home team until the very end.

Andrea Bari (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We should have closed the match earlier and the end of the third set has changes our plans. We have not played our best volleyball at tie break either, the result was positive anyway”.

In the second set Famigliulo is more aggressive, even though Roma tries to go further at the first TTO (5-8). A +5 in Corigliano’s favour (Corvetta’s and Biribanti’s blocks on Marshall) has the local team fly on to 10-8, 16-13 at the TTO. Roma is still dangerous though and goes back on 21-21 with a block by Mastrangelo on Maric. It is head to head up to Biribanti’s service, with Coscione forced to a mistake which brings Famigliulo on 26-24.

Roberto SERNIOTTI (All. M. Roma Volley): “We made too many mistakes and I did not like that at all. On the other hand we were coming from a peculiar period, with players away, which did not allow us to work at our best. I expected this type of match, I am happy about the two points. Corigliano? a good team both from an attitude and a technical point of view”.

Alberto GIULIANI (All. Famigliulo Corigliano): “A good match daughter of a peaceful period of training, which we did not manage to have in the first part of the championship. We carry on working towards safety, I believe this group is showing good qualities and the eagerness to fight against any opponents sunday after sunday”.
