The first round of the CEV Champions League Quarter Finals goes to Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia who, at the Opiquad Arena against Mint Vero Volley Monza, wins in a comeback in 4 sets. The Italian derby in the European field – the first continental clash between the two teams, as well as a rematch of the last Scudetto Final – therefore smiles on Angelo Lorenzetti’s men: the initial set sees the victory of Monza, who takes off in the final and closes at 25-19. The score, however, is different in the second and third sets, with large gaps by the Block Devils, capable of leaving the Brianza team first at 16 points and then at 17. The fourth set, the one that gives the victory to the Umbrians, is instead decided in advantages, with a double block by Agustin Loser that makes the Perugia bench exult, despite Monza having found itself at 23-20, and therefore with the possibility of going to a tie-break; in this way Sir Sicoma Monini, waiting for the return match, is getting closer to the Final Four in Lodz, scheduled for May 16-18 in Poland.

The top scorer of the evening was Polish hammer Kamil Semeniuk, who finished with 17 points scored and the MVP award of the match; in double figures for Perugia also Loser and Ben Tara (both with 12 points), Ishikawa (11 points) and Solé (10 points). On the other side of the net Massimo Eccheli tried to rely on the 15 points of Rohrs, the only Monza athlete in double figures besides Averill (14 points).

The return match will be played at the Pala Barton Energy in Perugia, Thursday, March 20 at 8:30 pm.
