A good third set and a comeback in the fourth weren’t enough for Smartsystem Essence Hotels Fano to bring home something good from Cuneo. The Fano team were in fact penalized in the first two sets following a non-positive approach to the match, too timid and not very aggressive: “We didn’t start well – states assistant coach Simone Roscini – we knew we had to contain their central defenders by hitting hard, unfortunately we made too many mistakes. As the match continued, spiker Felice Sette improved and made the difference by playing a high-level match.”
Yet the Virtussini were one step away from the tie break: “We tried in the second part of the match – continues Roscini – but in the fourth set we started badly and, despite the final comeback, we gave in. Cuneo played a decidedly more consistent match than ours.”
The German “Bibop” Marks is also on the same page and specifies: “They are also better in defense – says the opposite Virtussino – then we didn’t have an impact on the serve by making many errors. We were off the pace in the first part of the race, then we just went in spurts.”
It is urgent to now focus on the match against Pineto which Fano will host at the Palas Allende on Sunday with kick-off at 4pm: “Absolutely – concludes Marks – we want to redeem ourselves and go back to winning in front of our fans”.
