The press conference to present the Del Monte® Coppa Italia Serie A3 took place this morning, Tuesday 25 March, inside the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Sorrento. On Sunday 30 March, the event will bring the PalaVesuvio in Naples to life, offering the second seasonal trophy dedicated to the category. The two teams competing will be Romeo Sorrento and Personal Time San Donà di Piave, who were already protagonists of the Del Monte® Coppa Italia Serie A3 Final last February in Longarone.

The event that will be held in Naples will be the fourth edition of the event: the appointment is for 6:00 pm on Sunday 30 March.

Massimo Coppola (Mayor of Sorrento): “This is an important moment for us: we find ourselves today presenting the Del Monte® Supercoppa Serie A3, in the same room where we celebrated Romeo Sorrento’s success in the Coppa Italia. We are writing pages of history that we would never have imagined: thanks to the determination of the management, the athletes and the passion they put into every match. We are doing things that are difficult to predict; a few years ago we worked to adapt the sports hall to allow Folgore Massa to play in Serie A3. We hope to be able to work on it again to allow the team to compete in Serie A2.

Massimo Righi (President of Lega Pallavolo Serie A): “I am particularly pleased that Romeo Sorrento is organizing this event. Folgore Massa represents one of the greatest expressions of growth in the world of volleyball in recent years. For us, it is important that clubs organize events because they are crucial “stress tests” for their growth. Sorrento is also one of the cradles of Italian and Campania volleyball, and by organizing the Del Monte® Supercoppa Serie A3 we wanted to give credit to a Region where League events had been missing for several years: we are pleased to be back. I listened with joy to the words spent on the sports hall: the growth of clubs also passes through the development of sports halls. We work for people’s enjoyment: having a suitable facility is a fundamental part of the process. Thank you for your commitment: we hope Sorrento can enjoy a sports hall that is up to the capacity of the club. Serie A3 is a top-level championship: it is finding its appreciation and is proving to be one of the best European championships. Participating and winning trophies in this championship means being among the top-level clubs in international volleyball. There is an important challenge: that of bringing significant numbers in terms of spectators to a sports hall, the PalaVesuvio, which is not Romeo Sorrento’s home. We expect support and participation”.

Fabrizio Ruggiero (President Romeo Sorrento): “We entered the Lega Pallavolo Serie A consortium on tiptoe: it seemed incredible to have arrived, from Massa Lubrense, to where we are now. This is the last of the challenges that was presented to us: we had the right to organize the competition, President Righi left us free to choose whether to play the Super Cup in Sorrento or whether to move to the PalaVesuvio for an even more ambitious test, bringing the Romeo Sorrento brand into the Region, testing not only our management but the entire Campania movement. We have embraced this challenge, aware that we are trying to move as a Campania volleyball movement to write a chapter of history made of organization, quality and image of the event. The people who participate will experience a celebration for sport. We want to demonstrate, together with the administration, that these ambitious events do not scare us. In our territory there is an attention to all sports that allows us to feel important”.
