Trentino Itas made a sensational comeback in the first leg of the CEV Cup Semifinals: Fabio Soli’s team, playing at home at the ilT Quotidiano Arena, first ended up 0-2 down (both sets ended in advantage, 26-28 and 27-29) against the Turks of Ziraat Bank Ankara, then managed to get back on track in a match that seemed to have become complicated, scoring a win in the tie-break. Among the stars of the evening were Alessandro Michieletto, awarded MVP with 27 points scored (particularly decisive in the service round in the tie-break, with aces at 13-7 and 14-7), as well as Kamil Rychlicki and Daniele Lavia, who finished with 19 and 18 points respectively. On the other side of the net, Ziraat Bank Ankara relied on Anderson (21 points) and Ter Maat (16 points), but was unable to close the match in three sets after the first two sets ended in advantages. The end of the fourth set was decisive for the outcome of the match, and more generally of the Semifinals: the Turks took the lead 20-22 with a block by Savas, but suffered a comeback by Itas who took the match to the fifth set with a break of 5-1 (25-23).
The return match, which will give Trento the Final if the Dolomites manage to win with any score, is scheduled for Wednesday 19 March, at 17:00 Italian time, at the home of Ziraat Bank Ankara. For Itas, first, however, there is Game 2 of the Play Off Quarter Finals, with the away match at Cisterna Volley scheduled for Sunday 16 March at 18:00 (live on VBTV and Rai Sport).
