Clear and convincing win for Consoli Sferc Brescia who, at the Palasport in Cuneo, won their first Del Monte® Coppa Italia Serie A2 beating a combative Consar Ravenna 3-0. There is nothing to be done, however, for Bonitta’s team, which leaves the Cuneo Final Four with the silver medal around its neck, presented to Consar by the Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Cuneo Valter Fantino and the Vice President of the Lega Volleyball Series To Gabriele Costamagna.

Driven by Niels Klapwijk (top scorer with 23 points scored), Consoli Sferc Brescia then found its first success in the competition, the second overall for the Captain, Simone Tiberti, awarded MVP of the Final, and for Roberto Cominetti. Consoli Sferc was awarded by Massimo Righi, President of the Serie A Volleyball League and Gianfranco Salmaso, FIPAV Councilor.

It will therefore be Zambonardi’s team that will challenge Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina in a week, when the Del Monte® Supercoppa Serie A2 will be up for grabs: appointment on 19 May for the last seasonal event of the Serie A2.

The first set was fought and reopened at the end at the Palasport in Cuneo in front of 1,134 spectators: Brescia started well and with Erati’s block they found themselves ahead by three points (3-6), managing to maintain their distance and increase it until 11-15 with the invasion whistled in Ravenna. Consar tries to get closer but Gavilan’s point for 14-19 allows Consoli Sferc to attempt an extension, which results in the maximum advantage (16-22) thanks to Klapwijk’s block.

Consoli Sferc Brescia dragged by Niels Klapwijk in the second set, which closed at 20-25: Zambonardi’s men started strongly and found themselves at 0-3. Ravenna regroups trying to get closer, but Gavilan’s attack allows Consoli Sferc to find themselves at 4-9. Consar gets closer (8-9 with the Brescia attack out) but it is Klapwijk (11 points in the second set) who re-establishes the safe distance, despite a fierce Ravenna who reaches 14-15 and comes close to a draw.

Ravenna starts the third set with Raptis in the opposite role and Orioli in the band together with Benavidez, with Russo replacing Mancini as setter. Consar manages to stay level with Brescia until the score is 3-3, but Klapwijk also makes an excellent impact in the third set (6-9). Ravenna comes forward again, but the winning attack of the opposite team from Brescia re-establishes the distance (7-12) until Gavilan’s point which puts Brescia at 10-16. In the final it is once again the Consoli Sferc spiker who gives a very specific direction to the match (13-21) until the winning point scored by Cominetti which is worth 18-25 and the victory for Brescia

DEL MONTE® MVP: Simone Tiberti (Consoli Sferc Brescia)
SPECTATORS: 1134

Lorenzo Grottoli (Consar Ravenna): “We came close to two great objectives, we lost to Grottazzolina in the Play Offs and now in the Final against Brescia. With a little more attention we would have gained some satisfaction.”

Roberto Cominetti (Consoli Sferc Brescia): “This arena brings good luck, two years later I managed to achieve this feat together with my teammates. After the defeat in the Play Offs we were good at getting back on the field despite the difficulties. We arrived here and played a good volleyball, we are proud of ourselves. I will think about getting a tattoo for this Italian Cup, it is the second one I have won. I always try to give my maximum contribution to the team, both in reception and in attack. Today we were very good, this arena takes me luck, it’s wonderful to play here, as well as being a great captain, he’s very good at managing the group and calming down, he’s a great player.”
