Giampaolo Medei’s third adventure in red and white opened today with the afternoon press conference at the Hotel Cosmopolitan in Civitanova Marche. The coach from Treia, the new head coach of Cucine Lube Civitanova, was welcomed by journalists and fans with a big round of applause.
Strengthened by a two-year contract with the Cuciniero association and supported by Romano Giannini as right-hand man, the coach born in ’73 wants to relaunch a talented and hungry Lube, with a lower average age, with the aim of building a winning group and compete at the highest levels.
For Medei it is a homecoming after his experiences as a protagonist in Turkey, on the bench of Ziraat Bankkart, with the victory of the National championship (2021), and in Poland, at the reins of Asseco Resovia, complete with a European triumph in CEV Cup (2024). The coach’s arrival in Civitanova Marche can be defined as “Medei 3.0”. The coach worked on the Cantera staff from 1994 to 2001 (Junior League victory in 2000), and then joined the first team as an assistant coach from 2001 to 2006, winning 1 Scudetto, 1 Italian Cup, 1 Champions League and 2 CEV Cups . After a triple training experience in France, the coach from the Marche then returned to Lube as head coach in 2017/18 and in the first part of the 2018/19 season, leading the team to fight to the end on all fronts. Among the most brilliant results stands out the Olympic silver in Rio with the Italian national team as Chicco Blengini’s second coach. The flashback and the consequent third marriage between the Cucina Club and Medei lay the foundations for a year of reconstruction in which the possibility of competing in the Challenge Cup will do its part to cement the game and team group.
