President Fabrizio Ruggiero further shores up the roster, with a middle blocker born in 1999 who is eager to reach ambitious goals. Blocks point but not only, because even the balls touched in front of the net prove to be fundamental for creating effective counterattacking solutions. A dynamic 3 place, with quick reflexes and a great ability to read the plots of the rivals on duty, to be ready for “one on one” with no holds barred. From the sea of Palermo to that of Sorrento: the talented Francesco Fortes arrives on the coast. At just 18 years old he is already in the national category, and after two experiences in Serie B between Dolciaria Rovelli Morciano and Krifi Caffè 4 Torri Ferrara, comes the well-deserved leap to A3 in “his” Sicily in Modica. Immediately 116 points (enhanced by 41 blocks), and in the summer of 2020 Fortes moved to Campania wearing the jersey of the Normanna Aversa Academy, reaching the eighth promotion play-offs. The central defender then moved to Aurispa Libellula Lecce, where he scored 253 points in total (89 blocks), stopping just a few steps away from glory. In Salento, in fact, it reached the promotion play-off semi-final (ko against Videx Grottazzolina) and the Coppa Italia semi-final (falling only at the end of an infinite tie-break against Tinet Prata. In the last season Fortes flew to Sardinia at Sarroch, closing the year with 183 points (65 blocks), and a best-score of 16 points in the 1-3 on Monge Gerbaudo Savigliano’s pitch.
The 25-year-old center back will wear the ShedirPharma Sorrento shirt, bringing with him 673 points in Serie A, and a great desire to climb one more step towards his dreams.
After the experience in Sarroch in the white group, you return to play in the central-south group, choosing Sorrento. How did this possibility arise, and what pushed you to give in to President Ruggiero’s court?
“In reality, there had been contact with the company for several years already during the summer transfer session, and now our paths have finally crossed. I accepted with enthusiasm because the president illustrated an important project to me: the team is really strong, and I am very happy to be part of the Folgore family.”
