Amazing career, in his long sporting curriculum including a World Cup with the Italian national team, from 2000 to 2018 he played in A1 playing in all the arenas in Italy while from 2019 to today he has been a protagonist in Serie A2: Manuel Coscione is the new director of Smartsystem Fano, a coup that allows the Virtussian company to further raise the bar from a technical point of view.
Many historic squares touched by Coscione (among others Cuneo, Piacenza, Padua, Montichiari, Verona, Taranto, Ravenna, Santa Croce…) and a piece of the Virtussi mosaic that is gradually becoming more precious: “I was looking for an ambitious company – admits Manuel – with a historic square, Fano certainly is. Certainly Mister Mastrangelo had a decisive role in this choice, speaking very highly of the club and the team. I also admired what Fano did in the play offs, I have to congratulate everyone because it wasn’t easy starting from the round of 16 and getting to the end.”
The new Virtussino setter, in his palmares, boasts a championship won in the A2 series, 2 Cev Cups and 2 Italian Cups, as well as more than 600 matches played between the Super League and A2: “I will put all my possible experience into it – says Coscione – as well the technique and mentality that I have acquired as a player over many years. The leap in category will certainly be felt but both the club and the team group will have to work together to achieve the set goal as soon as possible. I will also be very available to lend a hand to those who may not yet have experience at certain levels.”
An A2 series that looks tough: “Over the course of these years – continues Coscione – I have seen teams that have performed differently between the first and second legs. Teams that had young players on the team who then grew in the second part of the season, others with a short bench who suffered in the second half of the season. It will be essential to be well organized for the A2 series, a championship that has now become high-level, an excellent springboard.”
Finally, something personal linked to Manuel Coscione and his very long career, the best memory: “Being Piedmontese, the victory with Cuneo in the 2006 Italian Cup comes to mind, on my birthday”.
