It is the day of Emma Villas Siena’s first seasonal technique and ball training at PalaEstra. It is an important moment, in which the Sienese team returns to the sports hall which has been their home since 2015. Since then many emotions have been experienced, such as the historic promotion from the A2 series to the Super League achieved in 2018 and the matches played in the top national volleyball series. The city’s support for Emma Villas has constantly grown, and last year the team was supported by many fans in the good run of coach Gianluca Graziosi’s team, which reached the final of the A2 playoffs. For game 2 against Grottazzolina, 2,100 spectators were present in the stands of PalaEstra.
Today also began the fourth week of seasonal training for Emma Villas Siena in view of the start of the championship. The first match of the A2 series tournament will be Sunday 6 October at PalaEstra against Aversa.
This week, however, the first test match will be played. The appointment is for Wednesday afternoon at PalaEstra: the start will be at 5pm and the opponent will be San Giustino, a team that plays in the A3 series championship. Today the team carried out a double work session at PalaEstra: weights in the morning and technique in the afternoon. Another technical session is scheduled for tomorrow in the afternoon. On Wednesday, however, the calendar includes weights in the morning and the test match against San Giustino in the afternoon.
One of the most experienced volleyball players on the roster set up by Emma Villas Siena is spiker Luigi Randazzo. Arriving from Catania, Randazzo, born in 1994, has thirteen Super League seasons under his belt while the one he is preparing to experience will be his first year in Serie A2. Siena also relies, therefore, on its experience and its qualities. This is his analysis of the moment experienced by Emma Villas Siena: “We are carrying out excellent intensity training and we are finding a good rhythm – these are his words. – We have started playing six against six and soon we will play the first test match of the pre-season. We will then have the opportunity to see what point we have reached. I see great desire to do in this group, which is made up of players with good experience and some young people eager to demonstrate their qualities, and I like this. We do the right things, I’m happy. It is important to test our growth based on the training we are carrying out day after day.”
