The physical preparation of Modena Volley continues, with the team having carried out a training session this morning in the gym and swimming pool at the David Lloyd club in Modena, where the yellow-blues also spent a few days of work last week. At the end of training, libero Filippo Federici and setter Silvester Meijs took stock of the situation.

“This preparation is going well – explains Federici – we are happy to start again and this is the moment in which we choose how to approach the season. We did it with smiles and sweat, the new teammates are settling in day by day. I definitely expect a lot from myself this year, I hope I can forget last season which was complicated because I never had continuity due to injuries. Our receiving line has some new additions like Gutierrez, but with Rinaldi and Davyskiba we already know each other, we will give our best to find the right fit and help our setter express his best game. What do I expect from the championship? I hope we will be able to put anyone in difficulty with a playing identity that allows us to be on the pitch at all times. Giuliani? The coach works a lot on defense, we have just started training with the ball and we are already practicing it a lot.

“I am a young setter with a lot of energy – this is how Meijs describes himself – I am excited to be here and to work with my new team. In my past I also played as a forward, then two years ago Piazza included me in the Dutch national team and set me up as a setter. I think my past as a striker helped me develop serving as a weapon in my favor. De Cecco? I have always admired Luciano, especially his magical touch and his ability to lift, playing with him will be incredibly educational for me and it is a dream come true. What do I expect from the season? It will certainly be a complex year, I will have to acclimatise to the Super League which certainly has a higher level than the Dutch championship, but I will give my all in every training session and in every match to grow and help the team. In these days of training I have already noticed many differences compared to Dutch volleyball, I was struck by the fact that at every training there are eight or nine staff members alongside the team and this highlights the great professionalism of the club. My compatriots and friends Maarten Van Garderen and Nimir Abdel-Aziz told me that the yellow-blue club is one of the most prestigious, has a lot of history and they told me to enjoy every moment here.”
