Apprenticeship finished, Mattia Eccher is a candidate for a starting shirt in his second season at Delta Group Porto Viro. The middle blocker born in 2003 had just enough time to extend his contract with President Veronese’s club before leaving for yet another summer for the Azzurri, the third in the last three years. European Champion in 2022 with the Under 20 Nation, Vice World Champion in 2023 with the Under 21 National Team, this year the continental title is in the sights with the Under 22 National Team, which also includes Edwin Arguelles, new opposite of Delta Group.

The U22 European Championship will be played in the Netherlands from 9 to 14 July next, Eccher should be among the squad of coach Fanizza, after which the athlete from Vimercate will be able to focus exclusively on the next Serie A2 Credem Banca championship. Last year, in his debut in the cadets, he was faced with sacred monsters such as Zamagni and Barone, but when he was called into action he impressed everyone with his 201 centimeters of pure explosiveness. This year the track will be much freer and the central striker intends to make the most of the opportunity.

“I felt very comfortable in Porto Viro and I hoped to be able to continue my career here – says Eccher – The club made me understand that they believe and want to invest in me and this is a great satisfaction for an athlete. I don’t know if this will be my year, I don’t like to think too much from this perspective, whoever deserves it will play, whoever can help the group the most. This doesn’t take away the fact that I’m ready to give the best of myself to the team and the club, then we’ll see what happens.”

Certainly, the cadet apprenticeship season was very precious for Eccher: “I am very satisfied with my first year in A2, I have enriched my background both from a professional and personal point of view. I think I have grown on all fronts, but the road ahead of me is still long and I am happy to continue it here at Delta I was lucky, I thank all the guys who were part of last year’s team, great people who helped me a lot at all times.”
