At the Paris Olympic Games there was also a bit of Sonepar Padova. Present at the long-awaited competition, with the colors of our national team, was the Juventus number 17 Luca Porro, who took part in the Paris Olympics in coach Fefè De Giorgi’s team. The Olympic debut in the match against Brazil and then the tough fight with the hosts, Luca returned to Padua with a lesson: “I understood that to reach the high level of play that I saw in Paris, there is still have a lot of work to do. I take home with me the desire to train and improve myself even more, with the aim of being able to permanently reach that level one day.”

How would you describe the Olympics experience? How did you prepare and how did you experience the competition?

“The Paris experience was a bit of a dream come true. Participating in the Olympics was a goal I had set for myself for some time. The journey to get there, however, was long. In fact, since April we started training for the qualifiers, between the collegiate and VNL stages. The preparation was intense, because to face a competition of this level you have to refine every single detail, both technical and tactical. And then, obviously, there is team work, with the new additions that must be integrated as best as possible.”

What did you feel when you took the field in your first match of the Olympic Games?

“At the beginning, when you enter the pitch, you don’t understand much, you’re overwhelmed by adrenaline. Often you only realize after the match that you played in the Olympics. At that moment you are only focused on giving your best for the team. Then when I realized I had made my debut at the Olympics, I was truly over the moon.”

What do you remember most about the days spent in Paris, between the arena and the Olympic Village?

“The moments I remember most are definitely the matches. It’s beautiful, without a doubt, the Olympic Village, meeting athletes from all over the world, but at the end of the day you’re there to play. The atmosphere in the arena, always full, even at nine in the morning, is magical. These are the emotions that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
