History, technique, experience, professionalism and charisma. Five concepts that can easily be summarized with a name and surname: Leonel Marshall. These five concepts, these five virtues, will still be present in the Sieco Service Impavida Ortona season 2024/2025 because Leo Marshall has chosen to extend his presence in the city by a year.

Born in 1979, at 196 centimeters tall, Leonel Marshall is an illustrious figure in the world of volleyball. He came to prominence on the international scene during the 2000 Olympics, when at just 20 years old he was the youngest member of the Cuban national volleyball team. Marshall is famous for his exceptional jumping abilities, with a record of 380cm in the attacking phase and 340cm in the blocking phase, he is capable of being a first-rate defender and a formidable attacker.

Many prizes in his bag. Voted Best Receiver three times in the Turkish League, he won recognition for best service in the 2001 World League, just to name a couple.

From the first steps taken in his homeland, Cuba, Leo Marshall moved to Italy in 1998 to play for Livorno in Serie A2. After two years in Tuscany, in 2003 he moved up the category to join Piacenza in the top Italian championship and, apart from a brief parenthesis in 2007/2008 with Mezzaroma Volley, Marshall remained in Piacenza until 2010.

In addition to his career in Italy, Marshall also played in Turkey with teams such as Fenerbahce SK Istanbul and Arkas Izmir, and had experience in Beijing, China. In 2016, he was still in Piacenza until 2018, before continuing with other international experiences. Then comes Ortona, who brings him back to Italy to compete and win the Serie A3 championship.

Tormented by constant physical problems, Leo Marshall grits his teeth to help the team defend the newly regained Serie A2 but bad luck hits practically half the squad, greatly limiting the potential of other key players such as the central Patriarca and the opposite Cantagalli who have almost never been able to show their real potential to the Ortonese public.
