Fresh from the third week of VNL, Iranian spiker Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh faces his first interview after the announcement of Cucine Lube Civitanova. The new red and white athlete, who speaks Farsi, but is studying English to break down the language barrier, also demonstrates brilliance off the pitch by proving to be mature and proving that he has clear ideas.

How popular is volleyball in Iran?

Poriya: “In my country there is a huge passion for volleyball, many follow the Super League, the national team matches and the most important tournaments. There has always been a certain interest, but the movement is growing rapidly.”

How did you get into volleyball?

“I was a child when I took my first steps in front of the net. I am living testimony that young Iranians have loved volleyball for years.”

You are young, but you already have an enviable CV. How do you experience all this?

“I’m only at the beginning of my journey and I want to win many awards. For me, Lube represents the beginning of my career on the world scene.”

What’s your best shot when playing?

“I am particularly comfortable in the finalization phase, but obviously I will take advantage of every opportunity to improve in all aspects”.

Was there a match that made you realize you had the qualities to play in Italy?

“I can’t talk about a single match, but by gaining space in the national team last year in official matches I became aware of being able to have my say at the highest levels in volleyball. I think I have good skills and room for growth!”.

Who is your Idol? Are there any champions among the players in Lube’s history who fascinated you?

“An athlete who has always managed to excite me is definitely Earvin Ngapeth. As for Lube, it is not easy to select among the many champions in red and white history, but I must say that Osmany Juantorena and Ricardo Lucarelli are two models for me.”

Lube is now focusing a lot on young stars, what do you think of this change?

“This change of perspective offers important opportunities to athletes with talent and ambition. I am happy to play in a team with many talented young players in my first year in Italy. It will be stimulating to support your new teammates and honor the shirt of a Club that also thinks about the future!”.
