“Ours was an excellent championship, which started with various difficulties, but the boys worked very well, growing as a group game after game. The playoff final was the final act of a year that in my opinion should be remembered.” This was the comment of the President of Emma Villas Siena, Giammarco Bisogno, at the end of game 2 of the playoff final on Thursday evening between the white and blue team and Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina. The Marche team achieved success at PalaEstra: 1-3 was the final result of game 2 which gave Grottazzolina the championship victory and at the same time promotion to the Super League.
For the second time in its history, Emma Villas Siena played in the A2 series playoff final, thus writing another important page in its sporting history.
At the PalaEstra on Thursday evening there was a great show: Siena and Grottazzolina honored the playoff final by showing excellent volleyball in front of 2,100 spectators. It was a spectacle on the Taraflex. “A final to go to the Super League is not played every day and it is certainly never a given – said the President of the Sienese team, Giammarco Bisogno. – We played against a team like Grottazzolina who objectively were the strongest team in the championship, they demonstrated it in the regular season and also in the playoffs. Our defeat is therefore acceptable and does not cancel an exceptional season for the players and staff. And I like to underline the large audience that was seen on this occasion at the PalaEstra, another element that is of great satisfaction for me”.
The white and blue team will return to training on Sunday. Because the championship is over, but the sports season continues and the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup are approaching. Another event that is certainly very relevant for the various clubs in the category. Game 3 of the round of 16 will be played on Sunday, with the match between Brescia and Reggio Emilia. The two teams are at 1-1 in the series, whoever wins Sunday’s match will be the challenger of Emma Villas Siena in the quarter-finals of the event.
The Sienese will play the first leg away on May 1st, while the return match will be played at PalaEstra on May 5th. In the event of a tie after the two matches, the golden set will be played in the return match which will decide which team will advance to the round.
