At the end of the 2023/24 Aurispa DelCar season, the presidents Massimo Venneri and Francesco Cassiano spoke to Mondoradio’s microphones to take stock of the objectives achieved.
“The balance is certainly positive – begins Venneri – because we finished sixth in the standings and, even if we went out in the round of 16 in the playoffs, it went equally well, we achieved our objectives. The club’s plans were these: to do a good championship, avoid the playouts and maybe reach the playoffs, and we did it”
Cassiano adds: “Indeed, the club’s program was to get out of the playout zone as soon as possible and then to find a position in the standings that would put us at ease. There was a crackling start to the season, then we had a decline, when It was necessary to remove Mr. Pelillo from the technical leadership, although I would like to reiterate our great appreciation to him both for his athletic preparation and for the work done technically. Unfortunately, however, something was not right and we were right in the decision to change coach. The arrival of Mister Cavalera, in fact, gave a shock to the environment, the team went back to having fun, quickly finding a calm position in the standings. In the end it went better than we imagined and we reached the playoffs, being eliminated from Lagonegro with some recriminations, but with full satisfaction for the good championship played.”
It is then Cassiano himself who returns to the round of 16 playoffs with Lagonegro: “We faced it perhaps a little too satisfied with the objectives achieved and, at home, we didn’t play our best game. Instead, away, if we don’t had there been some bad decisions on the part of the referees, we could have ended up playing for the golden set.”
Venneri, however, responds to the question about the possible reconfirmation of the coach, coach Tonino Cavalera: “Tonino’s arrival was fundamental for the result achieved, so I think that our sporting director (Antonio Scarascia, ed.) is about to confront him to prolong the relationship, but we will have to see what the manager’s intentions and plans will be for next season.”
On the balance sheet of the collaboration between Aurispa Alessano and Fulgor Tricase and on possible further partnerships, Cassiano clarifies: “The collaboration will continue, at least in the immediate future, while we have tried to do something about the involvement of other entities, even if the desire is perceived from some parties, there is currently no substantial news.”
