The Italian national team of Yuri Romanò, Gianluca Galassi and Alessandro Bovolenta, players of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, was defeated by the United States in the 3rd-4th place final of the Olympic tournament 3-0 (25-23, 30-28, 26-24) and finished in fourth place, the second time in the history of the competition for the men’s national team after the Beijing 2008 edition.
The 17 points from Romanò, the Azzurri’s best scorer together with Michieletto, were not enough. The Azzurri fought but ended up giving in in the hot moments of the match and probably the lack of a comeback in the second set, during which two set points were missed, also affected the players mentally.
An Olympic tournament started in the best possible way by the red and white team with only victories in the first phase but ended with two defeats: in the Semi-final with France and in the 3rd-4th place Final with the United States.
The Olympic men’s volleyball tournament will end tomorrow, Saturday 10 August, with the Final which will award the gold: France with the red and white Antoine Brizard and Poland on the court, starting at 1.00 pm.
