Coach Giampaolo Medei christens his new cycle at the helm of Cucine Lube Civitanova with a home success in four sets (25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 25-17) over Jacopo Cuttini’s Sonepar Padova in the first round of the Regular Season of SuperLega Credem Banca 2024/25. Without spiker Alex Nikolov, recovering from back surgery, and center back Marko Podrascanin, who can be used from the fourth round, in the night’s advance the red and white team elbows their way and grits their teeth, sparking the enthusiasm of the Eurosuole Forum with a generous test, made difficult by the difficulties linked to a game mechanism still in the testing phase and by the presence of combative rivals on the opposite side. A victory strongly sought by bypassing with heart and head the emotional trap typical of debuts. Effective in the first set, Lube drops in the second set and pays the bill. The reaction comes at a critical moment in the third act, won by advantages. In the fourth set there is only Lube on the court. Lagumdzija, voted MVP, finished as a top scorer with 25 points (62% positivity, 2 aces and 2 blocks). Also in double figures were a spirited Bottolo (15) and Loeppky (10). All the fundamentals, thanks to the final dominance, lean in favor of the red and whites, but Sonepar fights and ends the match with Sedlacek (14), Masulovic (12), Crosato (11) and Plak (10) in double figures. In his first official as captain, against his past, Fabio Balaso confirms himself as the leader on the pitch. Of note are the debuts in the Super League of the Brazilian Davi Tenorio and the Iranian Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh.
