President Tonio Bongiovanni announces: “The spiker Filippo Lanza will remain in Taranto and will be an important point of reference for our team also for the 2024-25 season. Great recognition goes to him as an athlete and as a man with healthy sporting values that we have always promoted in our society.”
Born in 1991 and 1.96 m tall from Zevio, in the province of Verona, Lanza returned to Italy in August 2023 after two seasons abroad, choosing to wear the Gioiella Prisma Taranto shirt in the rossoblù spikers sector.
Author of 269 points and 76 break points this season, he was a great reference on the pitch for the Ionian attack, effectively resolving many delicate situations that allowed the rossoblù to secure salvation.
Filippo Lanza has traced an impressive path in the world of volleyball. After starting in Trentino Volley, he proved his worth by winning national and world titles. His talent led him to play for renowned Italian teams such as Perugia and Monza, as well as experiences abroad in France, China and Poland. At an international level, he shone with the Italian national team, helping to win gold, silver and bronze medals in prestigious competitions such as the Mediterranean Games, the World League, the European Championship and the Olympics. His commitment and leadership have been fundamental to the success of the national team, becoming a point of reference for young players. In 2021, he announced his retirement from the national team, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in the Italian volleyball scene. His career is an example of determination, talent and dedication to sport.
Lanza therefore represents in Taranto the athlete on whom to rely, who has brought a wealth of content in attack and added value to the locker room, so much so that the team immediately found in him a role as a driving force for his teammates, immediately gaining everyone’s respect , and also very balanced in the reception and defense phases.
