The first shot of the incoming market of the Cucine Lube Civitanova, the spiker Eric Loeppky, a Canadian international currently working with the selection of his country in view of the VNL, allowed himself a first question and answer as a chef confirming his dedication to his work and his desire to achieve prestigious goals.
How does the idea of playing in a club with an important history like Lube affect you?
Loeppky: “Being part of Lube means so much to me. The red and white club was one of the first I heard about when I discovered high-level volleyball. It is a reality that immediately struck me, a dream club in which any athlete with strong ambitions would like to play. I know the importance of wearing the Lube shirt, I am more than ready to be part of the group and take up the legacy of those who came before me!”.
Are you more satisfied for having fought to the end in all the tournaments this year or does regret prevail for not having achieved titles?
“Obviously I am very proud of the brilliant journey in Monza, for the play expressed by the team and for the great challenges played along the way. As a competitor it’s difficult to swallow the bitter pill when you get so close to important goals without being up to par, but I absolutely don’t want the lost finals to erase all the good things done with my former teammates in Brianza.”
If you could go back in time, which game would you play again?
“If I had this chance I would like to replay the last match of the season against Sir Susa Vim Perugia to bring the Scudetto Final to Game 5″.
Back in college the Spartans called you the Ace King. What can you give to Lube?
“Yes, that was one of my nicknames in college. I think I have improved a lot after four seasons in SuperLega Credem Banca. The level in Italy is really high and to keep up you have to learn to adapt to the speed and strength of the game. I work to become even stronger and more consistent. I think my style will adapt perfectly to that of my teammates in Lube.”
Do you have an idol or athlete who inspires you?
“I followed many athletes with esteem and extreme interest growing up. One of the first laterals I watched was the American Reid Priddy. At this moment it gives me energy to think that I also played for Lube during my career.”
What do you expect from the near future with Lube and the Canadian national team?
“Easy! I expect great things both in the Lube jersey and with Canada!”.
What are your passions when you’re not playing volleyball?
“I love spending time with my wife and children.
