Elio Cormio will wear the Campi Reali Cantù shirt in the 20204/2025 season. But it is not the first experience in Serie A for him. In fact, he made his debut in the Super League with the shirt of his city, Molfetta, in the 2014/2015 season, and then held the field permanently in Serie A3 Credem Banca with the shirt of Franco Tigano Palmi, a championship unfortunately interrupted early due to an injury. Now, after three years of Serie B, it’s time for the Apulian spiker to get to know the second national category up close in the shadow of the bell tower of San Paolo.
Coach Alessandro Mattiroli comments on the new entry: “Elio is a player I faced in the last Serie B championship, and he impressed me with his physical and technical qualities. For me he is a player who is out of category in Serie B, and who deserved a call to a Serie A2 roster. He’s a boy who has excellent prospects, and he’s certainly one of those I would have liked to coach.”
These, however, are the player’s words: “For me this is a great opportunity: it’s not every day that you get called up by higher categories, that you get appreciated for your qualities, and this makes you feel very good. I know the club, which I have followed in recent years, and I am very encouraged to return to Serie A after having enjoyed it for a short time (during the Serie A3 championship with Palmi he was forced to stop due to injury, ed.). Furthermore, when my city team, Molfetta, was in Serie A1 I was added to the first team, and I grew up with people who I will play against this year. I have followed the market movements, and I think that the next championship will be complex: there are players who have come down from the Super League, many teams are very strong, and I think it will be fun to play against them. On a personal level, I don’t make big plans, I tend to live day by day, and I give my best every day. Things are built, so I aim to carve out my space to lend a hand to the team: we are young guys, and in one way or another we all know each other. Someone is very expert in this category: we are a complete mix in my opinion, and it will be the key to doing things well. It’s a new experience: place, level, championship, and I really like new things and stimulate me. In short, an opportunity not to be missed!”.
