La Rinascita Lagonegro completes the 2024/2025 roster with a great attack in attack, a player who doesn’t need too many introductions: Diego Cantagalli.

Born in 1999, 203 centimeters tall, Diego represents the offensive piece of experience and quality that president Carlomagno wanted to give to coach Lorizio to worthily define the contours of the squad at his disposal.

Son of Luca, famous representative of the unforgettable “Generation of Phenomena”, Diego tries to immediately shake off the legacy of a cumbersome surname by building his path in volleyball with sacrifices and dedication. He began playing in Cavriago, but at the age of thirteen he joined the renowned Lube Macerata with which he completed his entire youth career up to Serie D.

Two seasons in Serie B with the satellite club Appignano and then, in the 2017/2018 championship, his first taste of Serie A with the federal project of Club Italia, which considers him among the most promising young players on the entire national scene. He shows off with 281 points in 27 games played, his performances are rewarded by Lube itself who recalls him the following season to make him the second opposite in the Super League. It’s a magical moment for Diego: in 2019 he won the Scudetto and the Champions League, with the Under 21 national team he won the silver medal at the category World Championships and, to complete the circle, he was among the players called up to the senior national team then coached by Gianlorenzo Blengini ahead of the Nations League.

To grow further, however, he needs to play on a permanent basis as a starter and he does so first in A3 with Brugherio (2019/2020) where he scored 411 points (with an average of 23 per game) and then in A2 between Ortona (two seasons, including the one just concluded) and Reggio Emilia (from 2021 to 2023). With the Abruzzo shirt he scored the record – still unbeaten to date – of the highest number of points in a single match at elite level (46) on the occasion of Ortona-Siena on 8 November 2020. In Emilia Romagna, however, he won the Italian Cup and the promotion playoffs to the SuperLega in 2022.

The overall numbers speak for themselves: 101 victories in 195 Serie A matches, 2218 total points, of which 1908 in attack, 98 on serve and 212 on blocks.
