After several years the men’s volleyball club of the city of Cuneo returned to play in a national final eight and did so with just a couple of months of preparation, uniting players from the U13 and U15 teams to participate in the important and prestigious DelMonte tournament ® Boy League organized by the Serie A Volleyball League for the associated companies and dedicated to the Under 14 youth teams.
Puliservice Acqua S.Bernardo Cuneo, directed by coach Mauro Rizzo and under the watchful eye of Technical Director Mario Barbiero, after a preliminary qualifying phase in Cantù where they competed against Pool Libertas Cantù, Gamma Chimica Brugherio and Monge Gerbaudo Savigliano secured the pass for the Final Eight which was held in Fano (Pesaro Urbino province).
Present in the Cuneo group were Itas Trentino, Cucine Lube Civitanova and Consar Ravenna. Despite the scoreboards indicating three defeats on the pitch of the blue and whites, the joy of the young Fiöi from Cuneo in competing against much more experienced teams and the watchful eyes that have captured the opponent’s good game, showing hunger to learn and improve to get to play that type themselves of shares is the biggest victory.
Even this morning’s 7th-8th place Final against Modena saw bright eyes full of emotion during the awards ceremony, because that medal is worth a lot to the entire Team and the Cuneo Volley movement.
« We return home from the Boy League finals with important comparison indicators, which serve to make us understand where we fit in the national schedule and the work we have to do to bridge the gap that divides us from the Top Teams. – states coach Mauro Rizzo at the end of the three days in Fano – The phase in which we struggled the most was the ball change, certainly affected by a level of the opponent’s serve to which we are not accustomed. Now we just have to continue the path undertaken with even greater vigor.”
