Cisterna Volley is ready to face the second day of the return round within the friendly walls of the Palasport in Viale delle Provincie. On Saturday evening, at 8.30 pm, the Pontini team will challenge Rana Verona, currently fifth in the Superlega Credem Banca rankings. The two teams are separated by seven points, with coach Falasca’s team still having to recover a match.
THE TEAM – Rana Verona, led by Stoytchev, has focused on continuity this season, closing the first round with solid results which earned them a fifth place close to the top positions. Among the new additions, the Russian setter Abaev and the central defender Vitelli immediately stood out. Abaev was a regular starter, forming a high-level diagonal with Noumory Keita, the best scorer in the league. At the center, in addition to the expert Zingel – who in the past was the protagonist for two seasons in Latina with Top Volley – Vitelli and Cortesia alternated continuously. On the flanks, Mozic shared the field with Dzavoronok and Sani, while the yellow-blue libero D’Amico guaranteed solidity in the second line.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP – With seven victories in twelve matches, Rana Verona had a positive first round, accumulating 22 points in the standings. On the first day of the return match, the Venetian team gave the Italian Champions Sir Susa Vim Perugia a hard time, only losing in a tie-break after more than two hours of play. Verona’s last away win dates back to 1 December, with a clear 3-0 against Sonepar Padova.
